    New Python

Picked up my new 2021 Python today at The Gun Range in Sacramento. I had bought one of the first ones they got it at the beginning of the year, but the cylinder felt super tight when spun and the action wasn't so hot, so I let it go without ever shooting it. This one on the other hand is absolutely sweet. The cylinder spins freely and the action is super slick (Single action is still a bit heavy, but I'll live with it). I also scored a set of factory Colt Pachmayr grips in mint shape off Ebay that look and feel great on the gun. Here's a quick pic:

I was surprised to see they still had a NIB 4.25" Python still in the case (I think this was there when I DROS'd mine). Great price if anyone's looking for one.

Thanks for the post. A quick question.....did the pachmayr grips fit without modification?

Old model Python grips fit the new model Python. With that in mind, and saving the new Python from a fate worse than cerakote - the best made old model Python repro grips available.

Not cheap, but has everything from the fully checkered to 80's version. I suppose the only real criticism is that they're better made than Colt ever offered.

Funny, I recall thinking the same thing bout that Python noticed you posted shortly thereafter….

Good to hear the newer ones are better, is it me or is the finish diff on the 6”? It looks like a better polish…

                  Very nice gun!

That 4 inch Python sure is tempting
Now my mind is filled with rubber tires, and forest fires
                  And whether I'm a liar,
And lots of other situations where I don't know what to do,
At which time God screams to me "There's nothing left for me to tell you."

Might have to get one eventually, as it looks like they are more available, probably worked out the kinks, and prices are stabilizing.

I can't find a photo showing the new python's backstrap. Is it still fluted? If it is, seems a shame to hide it under a full wraparound Pachmayr grip but when it comes to shooting, the rubber grip is far more forgiving than the sharp checkered factory walnut grips.

They also minimize the flare towards the bottom which many people transitioning from semi's find less than comfortable.

The striations on the backstrap never did much, IMO; they were tiny grooves and not oriented in any way that gives you an advantage in grip.

I still have a brand new 1968 set and a 6" Python box of the same vintage. When I bought my Trooper (not a III) it had Fuzzy Ferant grips on it and the guy who bought the Python was putting Fuzzys on it too so he gave me the Python grips in case I didn't like the Fuzzys.

The 6” looks perfect to my eye!

My friend had on older one and it’s one my favorite revolver shooting experiences. I don’t need one but one of these days I might just have to treat myself and get one of these new one!

I like the 4". It looks more balanced. But im sure you get a little extra velocity with the 6"
