Sig 220 Trigger Job-

One of my close friends has 2 sigs... P220 (.45acp) and P226 (9mm)


He said the 220's trigger is a lot heavier than the 226 in both Single Action and Double action.

He had questions about "fixing" the trigger pull.

I know nothing about the Sig and it's trigger.... except for my guess that it's German and Overly Engineered and Complicated.

Anyone have a stock trigger that was improved by a local Smith or sent out to a shop to be reworked?

His brother and I are debating paying to send both Sigs out to a shop to have them reworked as a birthday gift.



What should I look at, what should I avoid?

Goal-

#1 has to be reliable
2 clean up smooth up SA and DA
3 lighten DA and SA
4 get both guns to have nice trigger that are similar

I very strongly recommend Mr. Bruce Gray (grayguns.com).
He's designed / improved triggers for Sig Sauer
I have had him do several of my pistols and they've been excellent and very safe.
They even have parts you can install yourself if you would enjoy that as well.
I think they might even be having a sale this weekend.

I have been fairly content with my three SIGs (P225, P229R, P226R) in how they feel. I've done some minor work on them over the years which included short-reset-trigger kits and mainspring replacement. Nothing major, as again, I've generally be happy with how they feel.

I've heard of Gray Guns and The Sig Armorer when it comes to actual modification work and folks have generally been quite happy.

Whatever you do, I'll just recommend getting your own trigger pull gauge to gain an objective measurement of what the present trigger pull is, and later compare it to what you finally end up with, and also to let whichever gunsmith know what you've got vs. what your expectation is once done with the work.

L-2, that's a great point...Mr. Gray asked me many of the same questions prior to taking on the job...things like what i don't like about the trigger, what type of shooting i do, break and reset quality/characteristics, do i carry, use at work, what i was hoping to accomplish etc.

After Bruce Gray works on your guns they will function properly.

I have two p226r .40, one was factory stock, the other a decommissioned pd issue..

my first one is on my carry permit so I opted for the factory SRT and AEP package deal directly at Sig..

$2-300 with shipping back then and very pleased with the results as well as maintaining factory status..

I actually fired both of them side by side years before when my buddy was carrying the pd pistol for duty..

we both agreed his duty felt better but I don't recall exactly what they do with theirs beyond the SRT..

he was one of the certified Sig armorers for the dept. and they performed their own maintenance..

after mine came back from Sig we both agreed it was greatly improved but not much discernible difference..

If it's just the DA pull weight that's the issue, just swap the hammer spring. Nothing else needs to be done but note that different era Sigs have different style springs. You'll have to confirm but they are convertible between the generations. Grip and leverage also affect trigger pull, so may try different grips in addition if he/you think it's needed.

If he wants the trigger smoothed out then, yes, seek a competent industry professional to do the job.

The factory AEP brings the gun up to the way it should have been when it left the factory. Sending it to Grayguns brings it up to how the designers meant it to be.
