Whats the differece between the different Glock generations?

Hello guys, I am sure others have asked but I just wanted to know whats the difference between the difference Generations on the Glocks? Which generation is more desirable and why? Which are not desireable and why?
Bye the way, i just bought a Glock 19 about 2weeks ago, what generation would that be? Also my brother owns a Glock 17 that he bought 1996, which Generation would that be.. Sorry if I am asking a dumb question but you guys seem to know everything

I'm sure others with more knowledge than I will chime in, but I think the new G19 would be 3rd generation?

I look forward to others responses..

        Ergonomics and aesthetic values.

The latest frames are RTF2, Rough Texture Frames:
        Only available in limited models.

It's almost entirely aesthetic, but you could also consider the addition of the third cross pin (for the locking block).

Most are calling the new RTF2 finish the 4th generation.

              They are incorrect.
Since, the RTF2 is limited and is not offered on all frames.
The RTF2 is just a frame option for some of the 3rd generation frame.

The current rumored replaceable backstrap Glock frame is now being considered the "4th generation" by those who called the RTF2 the "4th generation".

It would seem to me that there is very little difference from 1st generation to 3rd generation in the Glocks.

Try holding each, then see if you still think there is very little difference.

Finger grooves, stippling design, thumb rest mold, weapon light rails, third pin hole and manufacturing stamping are pretty much the differences.

So internally they are basically the same?

There may very well be some difference in the way they feel due to the change in grips, but my point is that seems a rather minor change to constitute a "new generation".

                            Thanks.
