Acquiring SA 1911 Loaded MC Operator

Model you want plus 2-3 Colt 1911s and enjoy them. There are a lot of folks who envy you. I would consider the Ronin model its non existent in California and would sell for big bucks.

There are no microstamping guns made so ignore that.

If the selling point for you in the checkered front strap, just buy the CA version and send the frame to the Springfield custom shop for machine checkering and high grip trigger guard modification. Then put VZ grips on it. While it was expensive and took some time, it was exactly what I wanted. Or youciuld find a local GS to do the mods.

Yeah, I considered that, but I think the mods from the SA custom shop (or any local shop) would add a lot to the price. It's annoying that the old/uncheckered and the new/checkered are exactly the same price.

Thanks! I'm going to take your advice and get the ball rolling with my dad. It might sound absurd, but my dad would be happy to buy me a gift like this. Less pleasing would be the hoops he would have to jump through w.r.t. finding it and then getting it transferred, but I will obviously do as much legwork from 3000 miles away as I can.

I've already had my first speed bump - I called the local Cabela's in Louisville. Asked if they could get the model I want. The guy said he would check his suppliers and whatnot, then asked if I was a KY resident. I told him I wasn't, but that I was checking to see if they could get it and my dad (KY Resident) would be the one purchasing it. I think this raised some internal alarms and he said he couldn't order it if he knew it would be going to CA off-roster. I said there was nothing illegal about what I was desribing, but he was having none of it. Politely but firmly declined to proceed with the search, so now I have to be very careful about what I say.

As a new gun owner here in CA, the first time I went into a LGS and the guy behind the counter was telling me why I couldn't get a G17 Gen5, I must have looked ridiculous with my jaw laying there on there floor. Stamping the serial number onto the case prior to ejection??? What are you on about my guy? Preposterous!

The last price list I saw was a while back, and even that was bare minimum on their guns only. You should call and ask what they are doing now.

You can save a lot of time and money by looking at the TRP. Its a better gun than the MC and really good front and back strap checkering. A lot of people whimper about it being too sharp for their baby soft hands.

This project is gonna cost a lot of time, money, and work for you and your dad. I think there are better options (like the trp). Custom gun work will cost a lot and you will be out of a gun for a long time. I think you'd be really happy looking further up the 1911 food chain. If you wait a bit and save up, Les Baer are a good choice, and they are on a completely different level (more accurate, better trigger, hand fitted, etc.).

I know personally, I had wished I just bought the "good gun" instead of using the Benjamins to buy a few lower level guns and then making the jump to what I should have got in the first place. In many cases, buying the lower cost gun and modifying it brings you up to what it would have cost to get the better gun in the first place. This is the calguns way, lol.


I know a Springfield Professional light rail is a jump...but you would be set up forever. You could take comfort in knowing that the high cost would be spread out over the many years of happy ownership.

I'm really happy that you posted this. I had never really considered the TRP until you mentioned it, but now that I look at it, I think I actually prefer the Black TRP (PC9108LCA18) over the Loaded MC Operator. So, off I went to Turners to put in a deposit on that gun. And lo and behold, they have a DNR (Do Not Reorder) flag on that gun and can't special order it.

And now I'm sad again. Lol.

Yeah, you are in a tight spot. A lot of popular models are in short supply. Start saving money, the supply will eventually catch up, and you will have some cash on hand.

I mean really start saving up! Costco should be friend for meals from here on out. Ramen is part of a square meal for many cal gunners. We can't have the professional rail in 9mm, but in 45 acp, we are good to go.

What is your budget? A TRP is a good value if you can get them at standard prices through places like sportsmans warehouse.

The standard, on roster Mc Operator is a good base for future custom work.

While the model you might want looks interesting, how do you know you'll like the checkering once it is in hand? Form and function often part company after a little experience.

OP, I’ve got an MC Operator. Great gun. For Springfield 1911, you don’t necessarily need to go off roster, as there are a few great options here. As far as availability, thats going to be tough nation wide. Just be ready to buy when you see what you want. Search the internet. It took my 5 months to get my MC Operator. Also, its possible to find a PX9105ML18 that looks identical to the CA compliant model. So be careful that you are getting a CA option. If you’re in Redding, CA I’d be more than happy to let you check out my MCO. We could go shoot it.

The front strap checkering on the TRP is a turn off for some. However, if you like aggressive texturing it shouldn’t be a problem. I personally like it. Anyway, good luck. I was just kidding by saying Nice try, all legal here. As if you are the ATF looking for folks to give you bad info. Thats all.

Thanks. I've been to a few places, but the one that seems to have the most helpful & knowledgeable people is Fowler Gun Room in Orange. But they tend to a bit overpriced. Maybe I'll swing by there tomorrow and see what they can advise.

It's good advice about the checkering, but I feel like I'm just going to have to take the plunge and hope it agrees with my hand. Otherwise, I'll just have to get some tactical gloves or go through the pain of growing some nice calluses.

I haven't abandoned the idea of getting the PX9110ML18, but the TRP definitely seems more attainable at this point. I really appreciate the offer, but I'm down in socal, so much too far for taking your MCO to the range for some test-firing.
