    Walther PDP

    Hi Everyone

I am new into the gun world...

My girlfriend and I took a class to shoot, and we are hooked!

So, now we both want to purchase a pistol.

I did some research, and the Walther PDP looks like a real winner...

Of course, because I am new to all of this, I was unaware of the ROSTER.

So, unless I want to pay $2,000 for a $600 handgun, I guess I will have to consider something else...

Does anybody have a suggestion for my first handgun that is similar to the PDP??

    Thanks!!!

PPQ is the descendent of the PDP. The P99 is the father to both.

Unfortunately, all are off roster. But they are cheaper and depending on your preference, may be better. All depends if you want a red dot too.

I’m a Walther guy through and through, but you can’t beat a Glock considering the cost. If you want it now, get a Glock. If you’re willing to wait for prices to come down, look for the three Walthers I mentioned above. I personally love the P99 the best.

CZ P10C. But you're still going to pay as it's off roster.

        Glock 17 or Glock 19...
        Springfield XD...
        Etc. etc.

Whatever you get will NOT be your last... And it will NOT be your only one firearm... So, simply take that first small step.

Get a full-size/compact-size striker fired pistol for sub $1K and call it a day. Use the extra $$$ for ammo and training.

Try out the website Tabletop comparison link below will give you good idea of comparing dimensions across different makes and models.

Walthers are know for their ergonomic grips and excellent triggers.
The next most similar in feel and performance are the HK VP9s
But they too are offroster and can be found for premium on CG Marketplace.
There is the HK P2000 and sk variant are on Roster and very popular.
They will run up to $1000 but are very much worth every penny.
You can find them at some LGS, rent and shot and put in an order.
Another but getting to expensive aret the SIGs.

Also consider... If you have a family member father or mother outside of California, they can "gift" you their Walther PDP. Wink! Wink! All Legal !

Technically that alludes to a straw purchase. You should probably edit your post or delete it before others criticize you here publicly.

Welcome to the world that us have been fighting for years... Thanks to restrictions placed by legislators that have been voted into office.

Go to a range that has rental guns and try a few.

P99, PPS, Creed, PPX, PPQ; nobody even cares about these guns any more. In a few years, nobody will care about the PDP, Walther will abandon the platform, and throw a new pistol design against the wall to see if it'll stick.

Since you are new stick with double stacks. Easier grip and recoil mitigation. Glock 19 world standard as far as what we can get without being gouged. There's also the HK p2000 that is very reputable and even some cz pistols. If its ccw you want and want to go narrower the Smith shields are great pistols especially when tweaked out.

It is not CA. The law against straw purchases is federal.

You might be able to find something off-roster that has been around longer a lot more easily... like a PPQ Q4, Q5 or Canik TP-9 SFX, or Glock MOS (maybe a 17, 34, etc...)

or you can pickup on-roster Glock 19/17/34 and get it milled... or add a second slide with a RMR cut.

                            On-roster CZ's are nice.

Rent a Glock G34 and see if it works for you.
