Best handgun for open carry armed security. Non leo

What would be your choice of on roster guns to be used if you were working armed security. Open carry. Not concealed. 10 round capacity limit, don't assume freedom week mags. Weapon light or not?

Definitely nothing exotic or off roster or something with sentimental value that you would not want taken if you ever have to use it on the job. Personally I’ve carried a Glock 17 or occasionally a Sig SP2022, both of which are light, reliable and easily replaceable. Definitely invest in a good quality weapon light and proper level 3 light bearing holster. Currently I carry a Glock 17, with a TLR-1HL in a Safariland 6360 light bearing holster. Also please please please take care of your weapon and clean/maintain it. I’ve had one of my coworkers who got shot at and his weapon jammed on the second round while returning fire due to lack of cleaning!!

I'd probably go with a SIG SP2022 in 9mm. Inexpensive, quality gun. DA/SA, but decent DA. Mec-gar makes the factory mags, and they can be found ( in normal times ) in the low $20 range for 10 rounders.

I think that the "popular" answer would be a Glock 19 or 17.

I'd probably skip the weapon light unless you know that you will be spending significant time in un- or poorly lit areas.

I'm fond of the HK P2000 or P2000SK in 9mm---"compact" pistols that shoot like full-size handguns...

What budget? Maybe if using 10 or under magazines something in 45 caliber? Normal sized hands or small male or female?

                      Let's say a budget of 800.

I got largish hands. Glock 20 was fine but the 17 fits me good. As good as a glock feels, at least.

I ccw a glock 17 with tlr1hl at the moment, and I'd be perfectly happy with it, but I like hearing the suggestions.

The safariland holster would be the one I was looking at.

Glad I'm on the right track.

Is it true that security companies really issue revolvers still?

wow that sucks. Hope they made it out alive.

I agree on the no sentimentality part. Did you build out your own belt for the job? Or did they have a belt/rig for you?

                          Glock 17.
Light and hopefully/probably you will never use it anyway.

Yeah he made it out alive the one fired shot from his weapon dissuaded the attackers from pushing further. Working for almost any security company you bring your own firearm, body armor and duty gear/gun belt. A notable exception is working federal contracts where they provide everything from your sidearm to your socks lol.
