100 yard pistol shooting wind factor?

Windy ? It is only a point of impact factor when its a cross wind. Head wind or tail wind has no affect.
A red dot sight makes distance hold over and windage correction very managable.

Be very careful shooting pistols at that range - before you know it you’ve taken home all the magnum revolver cartridges and then you find a Blackhawk in .30 Carbine and you work up a custom spitzer load…

An interesting thing about shooting in the wind.

From where you are standing, shooting out to a hundred yards the wind can be blowing from a couple of different directions.

Wind flags are your friend.

Your pistol might be 10+ moa anyway, so even with 6 inches of wind drift, that might mean you blew 16 inches left and missed, or 4 inches right and hit.

Just aim a foot high and if you miss, do it again. Ignore the wind, you're just throwing lead anyway, some will connect. It's a ton of fun, but it feels more like a lucky novelty shot.

It can be done. I once put 13 out of 15 into a paper plate at a 100 yards from a CZ85. I was shooting from a folding chair and got er done. Took my time and pretty steady from the chair leaning on a crossed knee.

What is the target size?

Personally - there is no need to overcomplicate this... If it's a steel silhouette, maybe man-sized or maybe half-sized, just shoot. It is just 100-yards.

As others have already opined one - rather than holdover/under, wind calls, having the front sight higher than the rear sight notch, etc. it's trigger control one has to focus on... Again, it is just 100-yards.

back in the 1970s my Dad built a CVA 44 back powder derringer kit. You could see the round ball in a football or softball like trajectory if you shot past 10 yards or so.

Kinda of fun to shoot, but it was not made for ranges longer than a poker table is wide

Waste of ammo. I shot at a large empty steel freon can at about 100 yards long ago with my Gold Cup, could hear the bullet go, "tink", about two seconds after the shot. Spent several rounds having to walk the impact up the hill to the target.
Not saying it's not fun, just a waste of ammo.

There are ballistic calculators online and there are apps for your cellphone. Plug in your data and it will calculate your drops for you out to 100 yards. You can also use it to calculate windage scenarios.

We actually run an Extended Range Handgun class where we shoot out to 200 yards. While wind can be a factor, my observations have been that the drop and shooter ability is are far more critical. And of course a quality handgun with good ammunition is also important, however, that is the easiest factor to control.

Do you have any rule of thumbs you can share?

When I goof and shoot at 100 on steel, I hold at the top of the head.
The 9mm drops a foot or so. So holding at the top of the head works on IPSC steel.
