Does it have to be a Colt?

I love my Dan Wesson! And they're on roster!

They have guns like that on consignment at Western Firearms in Bell but you'll pay dearly for them.

There are no 9mm Commanders on the Roster. The closest you'll get is a Kimber in .38 Super but it's not in stock anywhere and my local gun shop says that there's a backlogged waiting list 100 miles long for it.

I took the only option left if you want a 9mm Commander, I bought a Government Springfield Loaded Target (on the roster) and I'm going to have it converted with a factory Commander slide/barrel.

What's different between a Govt frame and a Commander frame (from what I've read and watched on youboob as well as discussing this in the gunsmithing forum here) is that the dust cover is about 1/8" to 3/16" too long and the guide rod recoil shoulder is about .100" too far forward. And that's it, other than that, a Commander slide/barrel will fit and function once those 2 things are changed at a gunsmith's shop.

You'll still need to fit the slide and barrel, but again, any competent gunsmith who knows and works on 1911's should be able to do that easily once the frame is machined to Commander spec.
          Some random thoughts:

Somebody's gotta be the mole so it might as well be me. Seems to be working so far.

Evil doesn't only come in black.

Life is like a discount bakery. Usually everything is just what you ordered. But, occasionally you come face to face with an unexpected fruitcake. Surprise!

If you’re willing to pay Colt off roster money maybe a Nighthawk would be a better value? They offer a program that allows you to buy a CA compliant, then send them the gun and have it reconfigured to your liking. Be it a 9mm commander. Lmk if you need the link. Otherwise, I haven’t seen a Colt Commander 9mm in CA.

My DW Commander shoots really soft. Compared to my Springfield Loaded 9mm, there isn’t much difference. (To me, I’m sure others might disagree)
