Mark it for range only use, and buy a new one. Mags are a PIA to diagnose problems with most times. It's usually easier just to buy a new one, if that is the only issue with it, no reason to toss it just keep it for range use.

The extended Shield magazine is notorious for make contact with the fatty part of your palm resulting in it not dropping free. Are you pushing the magazine release without gripping the gun and still expiring hang ups?

keep for range use or time to bust out the sand paper and give the mag a once over to smooth it out.

make sure to re-coat it with a light spray of paint or clear coat to prevent rust.

I had that same issue with a Springfield 1911 trp magazine. Contacted Springfield and they sent me another one for free. They said keep it or toss it when I asked if it needed returned to them. I marked it as a range mag and it's just in the bag if I need it.

I'm having the same problem. Just picked up my Shield and haven't fired it yet. The 7 round mag drops right out with no issues, loaded or unloaded. The 8 round mag slides out about 1/2" like OP and stops. Tried it without touching the mag and just pressing the mag release. Same result. Felt inside the grip but didn't notice anything that would cause it to catch. I'm guessing a bad batch of mags? I prefer the 8 round mag as it fits my hand better, but don't want to drop $35 on an OEM one if it's going to have the same issue.

I don’t know the shield but with a 1911 I had an issue with the feed lips spreading and hitting the trigger bow.

With a round or up to 8 in the magazine, the follower was down.
Once the magazine was empty, the follower pushed the magazine lips apart.

When ejecting the magazine you heard it scraping out. It would not insert when empty.

One could use layout fluid or sharpie all over the mag to see where it is hitting.

But it sounds like a known issue with the 8 rounders.

I know there are several models of Shield. Are the mags the same?

Just checked my eight round magazine and it pops out both empty or fully loaded as clean as the seven round mag. I've only shot one full eight round mag (lots of sevens) so it's not even broken in yet. Off roster non-cal SSE model, 2013 build date.
