That's a really good price. I paid $499 for one 25 years ago; that would be about $800 today. I also made about $5 per hour, so that was a lot of money for me.

^^^ this. I bought my first Beretta 92 at SF Gun Exchange, about 26 years ago, for just over $500. Ordered one last week from SW (just arrived at my local store over the weekend) for $599. Not too bad of a price, especially with some other places trying to sell them for $800+ right now.

You should not rely on SW website. You need to go in and check what they have in store.

I was looking for S&W 617 a few weeks ago and it is out everywhere (except Gunbroker) and even used ones go for $1000+. I went to SW, just to ask if they can notify me when they get it, because website showed it OS, and it was just sitting there with S&W 629, half hour later I had my S&W 617 for $780 total with tax and DROS. Already picked it up and tested it. Nice gun.

Nice score! I hope you immediately went out and bought lotto tickets, because your luck was running good.

Sometimes, everything does line up.. I had ordered a pistol on the web, and when I went in to DROS it, saw another on the shelf which I wanted by was OOS on the web. FFL03+COE paperwork got them both on the DROS that day.

But, it's not a question of "relying" on the SW site. It's a matter of using the site to identify firearms which are available and their price.

Each SW store receives stock which isn't publicized and may be on the shelf or wall when you walk in. They may or may not have what you want. If they have it, you can get it; if they don't, you can't.

But, if you want what's on the website, you can get it.

They sometimes have the items in store not listed on the website, but unless you are close to one it is easier to order online and then go pick it up in store when they email you.

I have noticed a distinct increase in availability since the start of may compared to earlier this year and the latter half of last year. It is a slow process once in store, but at least you are not price gouged like elsewhere. Picking up my 686 Deluxe later this week.

Recently scored the S&W Model 327 around 11:45 PM on a Saturday.
I've had my eye on this pug nose for years, they've been hard to come by. It's a handful with .357 Magnum at 22Oz but an absolute blast to shoot!

Looks like Sportsman's Warehouse is a large S&W revolver dealer, with some of the most competitive prices these days. They're a little far out in Corona but overall a smooth purchase. I'll be back for more!

The online website does not reflect accurately what stores carry so never a bad thing to ask

I scored a stainless 10/22 takedown on there last week in the middle of the night. I go in for the paperwork tomorrow. It's pretty fun actually, I feel like I'm pulling the handle on a slot machine every time I log onto that website.

Random heads up to you Northern California people: I was in Ukiah for a soccer tournament this weekend and Pacific Outfitters had two 4” Kimber .357 revolvers for $1k each.
Buying a safe and sane firework is like paying a hooker for a hug. I do not see the appeal in it.
