Need some help buying a gun

    Guy I need some help
So I just moved 2 weeks ago. Only new proof of address I have is gas bill. My drivers license and car registration is still says the old address.

Can I still purchase a shotgun? What do I need besides my fsc card? Tia

I think long guns all you need is CA ID and FSC.

If you do it like above, you will be screwed next time you buy ammo. Just wait till updated info to come in. Car reg or new DL.

Pretty sure you’re good with the gas bill since it’s a long gun. I think you would need two item of it’s a handgun.

Buy it (assuming you don't need additional documentation), and then edit the CFARS record with the new address.

CA requires REAL ID. Proof of residence is only required on handguns. I’m not sure if Passport will circumvent a Federal Limits Apply ID, but at one time it did.

Are you sure? I believe it's REAL ID, or CADL that does not say "federal limits apply". At any rate, deadline for REAL ID is now October '21. And it's only needed if you intend to board domestic flights if you do not have a passport or do not intend to use one as identification.

You can have the real ID or you can have your federal limit supply California ID with a birth certificate or federal ID such as a passport a second form

for a long gun just need a real id,

For a handgun real id+pg&e works great, you can also buy a hunting license if you don't have the pg&e.

I had a situation where my beautiful area has it's own name but is really part of another city. Well despite every map showing them as the same address, the pg&e listed the other city name and that city name did not match my id, although it is the same location. I was able to do the hunting license in this scenario and it mattered mainly because I drove an hour+ to get the firearm and did not want to return.

I must have not explained myself correctly. We are on the same page however. In conjunction with the non-REAL ID, one must have a BC or Passport.

The DHS deadline got shifted to May 3, 2023. (Also note that DHS/TSA accept a wider range of documents to confirm identity than CA accepts to confirm citizenship-such as HSPD-12 PIV).

So I expect many folks will continue to get FLA licenses and use a birth cert for firearms.

                            Or buy ammo in California.

As far as I know, the older Non-RealID/non-FLA licenses were grandfathered in. They are treated the same as RealID until they expire (which is odd.)

They are pre-AB60 which allows CA residents to get licenses without showing proof of citizenship or legal status starting in 2015. (or from during the transition period)
