1911 loose trigger normal?

Just bought a Dan Wesson PM7-45. Fired 100 rds and dry fired with snap caps. Noticed today that there is a little play at the trigger up/down and side to side like 0.2- 0.3cm. Is that normal? Thanks guys!

It is normal to have a little lateral/vertical movement in the special trigger with a 1911 type.

A slight play is normal. However 0.2 to 0.3 cm is kinda too much. That is 2 to 3 mm which is 78 to 117 thousandth. That is too much free play side to side or up and down.

I’m assuming the OP means 0.2 to 0.3 mm. The entire trigger is only about 5mm wide. It would be nearly impossible for it to have 3mm of side to side play unless something was seriously wrong.

Something did not sound right with those numbers/measurements. Not sure how OP was measuring or if he just guesstimated it and listed those numbers.
Also, i was surprised that he used metric units as we usually use 1/1000th of inch when talking 1911 tolerances.

A little is Normal. My sig and colt both have a little play in the trigger even my les baer had some if i remember correctly

That type of play is common. If you shoot it enough, you will not think twice about that issue. The only thing I would be concerned with is the break/take up/creep. It should have a very crisp and consistent trigger break.

You want a little play in case foreign debris gets in there. Although 1/8” is on the very loose side. That would hinder my trigger pull if the trigger is moving side to side by that much.

Congrats on a Dan Wesson PM7!

A trigger replacement (not trigger job), is a easy home DIY job. Then you can perfectly fit it with zero play. I pretty much replace all mine with a flatty .

The best way to understand this issue is to find online photos of the 1911 trigger and schematics of how it fits together. There is no pivot pin that would hold the trigger in place and the trigger bow "freely slides" inside the frame.

This will give you the peace of mind about your (great) purchase.
