Is the new Colt python worth the money? I have a 1966 Colt Cobra, so the controls would be the same. Other than that is it worth the $1500 price tag? Has anyone had hands on experience with one?

The money is yours to decide with...your money vs. want/desire/need. What is worth it to one person may not be to another...
Buy ammo...

No. $1,629 OTD for mine back in January and came with machining marks on the inside part of the crane almost made it look cast. Finish looked great under the stores fluorescent lights but once home...it was unimpressive (to me) and left a bit to be desired for my money. The fit is fair/decent but i have seen better on S&W revolvers which brings me to the trigger...feels better on the $1,000 S&W’s. Would i buy the colt python again? If it was $1,150-$1,200...sure.Comment

I had a 6" one for about a month, never shot it. Gun was beautiful, but in my opinion, had a horrible single action trigger pull. The D/A was decent, but when you pressed the trigger in S/A, the hammer moved to the rear before it dropped, resulting in about a 5 1/2 lb S/A pull. Called Colt, was told that because of the CA drop test, the S/A had to be that way. Was also told that although the new Python could benefit from a trigger job, they (Colt) didn't offer that service. Was over on the 1911 Forum and someone said they sent they're 2020 Python to Heffron Precision for a trigger job. Gun had to go back and forth a couple of times to remedy light primer strikes, but was eventually fixed to the owner's liking. He said the tune resulted in a SA pull that was "light and crisp at around 3.5 - 3.75 pounds, and the DA pull was lighter and smoother than it had been from the factory". Checked their website, looks like the action work on the new Python is about $200. You can probably add on a couple of hundred more for shipping both ways. That would put the new gun at around $1900, which is too much for me. Sold the gun for what I had in it and decided I'll stick with my pre-lock/pre-MIM S&Ws. Hope this helps.Comment

That price tag is for the name and sexy looks. Pythons are great looking revolvers.

It's a Colt for $1,500. Get it.
You can complain all you want about why do Colt's command a premium. I have no qualms with anyone arguing that point. It's a worthy debate. The problem is Colt still sells everything they make at a premium over equivalent or better guns. That's a simple fact.
