      Good taste so far.

Unless if you are exempt, there are only two 9mm 1911s on roster. Kimber and SA, both in 5"/government size.

If that is not a limitation and you can purchase what ever you find (or find one by PPT), a commander size 1911 in 9mm is a very nice gun to shoot. That goes goes for the two listed above as well.

        Not really.

You can reach out to Nighthawk custom and Nighthawk Custom California local dealer, they can make 9mm for you based on CA Roster gun, and price is REALLY fair( way better than off roster price).

JUST FYI, here is the info for you . https://www.nighthawkcustom.com/ca-e...ing-initiative , final prices are listed.

Interesting choices. I think you may want to consider a government 1911 with light for home defense. Caliber is up to you. My current carry is a CCO (officers frame with commander slide) in 9mm. The gun started out as a 45 officers he was modified to 9mm with a new top end from Fusion and new ejector/slide release and mags. Likely will get the slide milled for a RDS, since I’m getting older. It’s a different way to go, but you will be only limited by your imagination (and available funds).

Tough decision with a broad criteria to check off. Not to take away from the 9mm on a 1911 platform, no doubt it's a pleasant shooter, but i'll look at it from the purist perspective.

If the purist in you is really talking then by all means a good ol' 45acp Government size.

If you want to check off majority of the boxes with some purist influence, then a 45acp Commander size. However, since you do have a Kobra Carry in 45acp already, Ed Brown can convert it from 45acp to 9mm. So you'll have (2) slides to switch from; your original 45acp and a new 9mm. Comes at a cost thought..

For me, I would get a railed model. You already have a Kobra Karry, which is a great Commander sized gun (meaning, glock 17 size).

For home defense, I would get a Nighthawk Enforcer with rail. You can get it in 45, 9 and 10mm. Ken Hackathorn and Bill Wilson actually made a video recommending the 1911 in 9mm specifically due to arthritis and battering the hands during range sessions.

If you want an even smoother shooter, try a Nighthawk Firehawk or TRS Government (with rail). You really cannot get much less recoil than a full sized 1911 with compensator.

You can send the Kobra to Ed Brown for a KC9 conversion. $1500 and you will have both 9mm and 45acp slides on the same frame. 1 trigger to rule them all. This is on my to-do list. Just a thought.

There are two guns every firearms collector should have in their possession.

                    A 45ACP in the form of a 1911

                    and

                    A 10mm semi-auto pistol

Seems like you are missing the latter.

OP...if this is the last hurrah on a 1911...in 9mm...then you gotta up your game. Look into Wilson, Nighthawk, No Name or some other fine shooter. You have owned some nice guns...time to step on up into the semi custom level...

                      Good luck on your search...

Personal preference. Mine is always towards full size guns unless you are going to carry them. Full size guns are more accurate and easier to shoot. So, I'd vote for Government size.
