Ruger P94, what do ya think?

I have the opportunity to get one of these for about 375 out the door. Its in perfect condition. Are they decent pistols?

Do you have one? What do you like and dislike?

I just want to make sure its a good buy.
    Thanks

I have one and the thing is like a tank. Litterally and metaphorically. It is big and heavy as hell, and it takes all kinds of abuse and goes bang every time. Because of the weight it has very little perceived recoil. Overall, it is good for beginners or those that are rough on guns. I don't think I would expect it to win any matches though.

In general, Ruger's auto don't interest me. I would use that money and get one of their wheel gun.
And in close $400 range, there are many great like new used gun you can find. Glock/XD/M&P if polymer is what you looking for. S&W have many metal frame auto, used run about that price as well.

Last year, I found a P89 9mm and P94 .40S&W in Turners, both for $250 each. I bought the P89 as I wanted a 9mm, but now I kind of wish I had just bought both.

Well its not that I'm looking for a gun like that and decided on this one, this just poped up in a local gun shop and I was interested. I already own an XD, glock, HK, as well as 3 "wheel" guns. So its not like I'm new to pistols and looking for a good starter pistol I'm just asking about this pistol because I simply dont know that much about them.
            Thanks

I think the general consensus on the P-Series is they that they are on the heavy and bulky size (especially since you own some polymer guns), but they are super reliable workhorse guns. I have met people who swear by them. I've only put about 1000 rds through my P89, and it has been 100% reliable so far.

As a carry weapon, it wouldn't be my first choice, as it's heavy, but as a defense weapon, it will probably have the kind of reliability you'd want to stake your life on.

Also, it's heavy and strong enough that if you ran out of ammo, you could beat your attacker to death with it, and it would still work (this is sometimes how I like to rate items, as a measuring gauge to how well that item is constructed).

Also the ambi safety and mag release is handy to some people.
