XD red dot mount, bringing up old post.

Older post from mike51352

So here's the cheapest/crappiest way I found to mount a red dot it's a ade product sold by amazon $20

So part E2 replaces your rear sight and E1 screws on to E2 using 2 small screws - SIMPLE RIGHT, WRONG

Part E2 is way out of spec so a good set of files is gonna be needed and 2 hours with smoke breaks in between to get it to work

Sorry for bringing this back up.......
Purchased what I thought was the same mount.
Turns out it is a second generation or a copy of yours.
The pins are not silver and the E2 part is smaller...much smaller.

Yours was .300" and mine is .250" and factory is .260"
Was going to file and make it a tight fit.
The one I purchased just slides with no resistance from slide.
So Calguns what would you do.

Send it back and try to find older oversized.

Shim the adapter, best material ? and use loctite ?
Any real life experience doing this for a heavy adapter with red dot?

Reduce the total height of adapter E2 so it creates a tight fit by drawing large plate onto slide ?

Shim the large plate so same result as ^^

Any other adapters that works with XD
Any Calguns have the older one and not going to use it?
BACON ?

TIA

Yes that sight was tight and a PITA.
Do not waste your time or money on a sight pusher for XD
The leather shows how tight I had to hold that slide

I believe that mount is a Venom/FastFire foot print. Burris has a plate for the XD and I have one available. The dovetail adapter from Burris measures 0.264 at the widest point. PM me if interested.

^^^^^
Thanks for the offer.

Shimmed the E2 adapter with .012"
Think this will keep in place.
Will copy the idea of longer roll pin.

Still waiting on PSA order.
Been 7days with no order "ship" only order confirmation.
Understand they are flooded with orders but this delay is way beyond any other vendor I have used.
Saving $50.00 on Venom is a test of my patience.

Update, PSA finally sent my order out, 8 days from order/ship.

Finished up the mount.
Would discourage anyone thinking about using this type mount.

Once the plate was installed I noticed it was at a slight angle up on slide.
Removed the E2 mount and did a 180* plate is angled down.
In case the red dot can not zero will be able to shim the plate up.

Ordered a new and improved roll pin and noticed it was the same size as my Beretta hammer spring cap roll pin.
Had replaced them with updated dog bone style.
The length was almost perfect to be a front stop as used by mike51352, just slight file work to shorten.
Made a center line mark on mount, used a file to make half moon slot for pin.
Not sure how mike51352 used a drill to do his.

You can see the mounting screws are NOT flush, had to countersink slightly.
If you do not than red dot is held up by heads witch can easily be seen from side.

Beretta dog bone, showing length. new and improved roll pin, old factory one............................Can see how the plate is slightly angled down, did use a shim on final assembly.

Still waiting on Venom from PSA

Finally received the Venom.
Comes with mounting screws but wrong size for my mount.
Venom = #6-48 and Glock screws think = M3.0 - 0.5
Mount = M3.5 - 0.6
Remembered during my RC car days that HPI used that thread so ordered some.
Cut down length.
Installed finally.

Mount screw was not cap head so did not want to use on Venom.

Would not do this again with this mounting system on any handgun.
Like working on my handguns, somethings are not worth doing.

What company's have had good results ?

If you are not looking to machine your slide, JTDefense sells a acceptable mount. I did shoot mine off after 4000 rounds though (threads stripped). As for DV8, I have 2 of their slides for my XD and they are solid. If you get it, I highly recommend their new DreadNought slide. The serrations are quite nice
