    Thinking about a Glock...

I've had my eye on a Glock 26 at the local shop for a while now. I don't have any 9mm handguns, so that's part of the little devil on my shoulder's rant about why I need it. It's small, so it could go on the CCW that I'll be applying for one day (that I keep putting off). It's got magazine extensions so it fits my hand.

Should I do it? Why? Should I get a different model Glock or a different 9mm altogether? Why?

I already have an XD Tactical and a Kimber Ultra Carry II in .45 ACP. I like .45 ACP. Why should I move to 9mm?

    Decisions, decisions.....

Nothing wrong with a 26. I've been thinking about one lately myself. Glocks are nice guns. The best thing going for it is 10 rounds in a very compact package.

are there conversion barrels for the subcompact glocks? I know there are for the glock 23 to convert it to a 19. If there is, you should get the 27 instead

I've got a G27 myself which is the same as the 26 just the 40 cal. I love it. It is a great small concealable gun if you need a small one. You should check out the G19 as well. It's a little bigger then the 26 but a really nice size!

I like the 40 cal too because it gives you an option to get a conversion barrel and make it a 9mm buy just buying a barrel. If you get the 9mm you cant put the 40 cal barrel in it, you would have to get the 40 and go to a 9. If you would even be into something like that. Just kinda makes you feel like you have 2 guns almost.

Overall either the G26 is a great choice!

          they sure do make it!

Lone Wolf Arms is the largest manufacturer of aftermarket parts for Glocks. We also have M&P Shield, Beretta/Taurus, and Browning Hi-Power parts.

The G19 is not too much bigger than the G26 and you will find that the accuracy is better on the G19.

Get it (or a G19). Any good well rounded shooter needs something in 9mm.

Honestly, I would reconsider towards a G19 over a G26. The subcompact Glocks are large enough to make pocket carry (if at all possible) uncomfortable.

The finger extension would make the grip similiar in length to a compact Glock (G19/23/32). However, what you'll end up giving up is barrel length and sight radius. If you plan to use a finger extension, the Glock 19 may be a better route to take. Carrying a compact Glock is still very easy to conceal, there are many holster makers whom make concealable IWB holsters, and imo, the extra barrel length helps stabilize the gun when carrying IWB.

fwiw. Can't really go wrong either way.

So what I'm hearing is a G19 is the same as a G26 (9mm) except that it's the compact instead of subcompact model? Hmmmmmmmm... got some thinking to do.....

I def. need a 9mm. I think. The ammo's cheaper, the 9mm isn't as inferior to .45 ACP as many like to think (not much of a smaller hole and good penetration) and I hear that it's probably going to be the next "cheap surplus" round because it's being used so actively in combat deployment. I got .45s because, who doesn't want a .45? But now I think I need a 9mm and I heard that Glock is the only way to go.

But for the sake of argument, where ELSE could one go with 9mm???

You can never go wrong with a Glock. However, I'm more of 40 Glock fan.

I enjoy Glock. Simple, low maintenance, and I seriously believe Glock hit a homerun with their compact line of pistols (G19/23/32).

However, take a look at a HK P2000 V3 or LEM. Very similiar size to a Glock, but I find it more enjoyable to shoot. It won't have the short slack and reset as the Glock, or the low bore axis as the Glock, but it can hold its own and is a pure joy to own.

I used a Comptac Infidell IWB holster and on my skinny 170lbs 6'1 body it disappeared easily.

Another option would be a Walther P99. This was my runner-up gun. I like the hidden decocker in the slide, similiar to HK's P2000 at the rear of the slide. Both are very streamlined (well, Glock is also) but I preferred DA/SA. The P99 is also very similiar in size to a P2K and G19. The trigger system on mine is a little different, long slack, but the trigger reset is the shortest of all my guns I own. It is shorter than Glocks and dare I even say 1911s.

If you plan to shoot targets with this gun, I would vote to go at minimum, a compact length pistol.

                        An alternative is smith mp9 compact. 9mm is relatively cheap not as snappy as a 40. My fav calibers to shoot ( if money no issue ) 45, 22, 9, 40. For defense I'd go 45 357mag 9 .38 40 22.

Baby Desert Eagle is just ok. Springfield XD is a flop IMO. HnK is pretty expensive! Sigs are pretty clunky. Smith M&P's are pretty nice.

I like the Glock 30. 10 rounds of 45ACP equal to any other handgun in California. Plus you can use the same ammo you already have. The G30 is small, too.

G17 is the full-size if you want a slightly larger gun. I also like HKs. Haven't seen a bad recommendation in this thread yet.
