Snagged a new Python by pure luck

I walked in Sportsman's Warehouse last night just to check on ammo. Walked by the gun case and noticed a 6inch Python. It was almost the cutoff time for doing the DROS. Cool older manager allowed me to put it on layaway overnight.

I guess someone did an on-line order but failed the back ground check. The best part was the price at $1499.

    My third lucky Python purchase.

I've seen this before at Sportsman's Warehouse but the excessive waits put me off from buying anything else again. Even when not crowded they are SLOW. Too corporate.

They may be slow, but I have to hand it to them, they're about the only outfit out there trying to hold the line on gun and ammo prices. Everyone else is gouging like crazy, but not Sportsman's.

They've earned my loyalty a hundred times over compared to some other big and small competitors.

They're also one of the only outfits that manages to get inventory of guns and ammo fairly consistently.

Congratulations! I have been the first on my local shop’s waiting list for months now. Still no word. If they don’t get it soon I may well spend the money on an over/under shotgun.

I get what you're saying. There's that corporate structure and rules we have do deal with at a Sportsmans, like having a teenage clerk "inspect" what we bring in for a PPT. Or being walked out with a purchase until it's handed over at the front door. As compared to the LGS where things are less formal.

We want the good of the LGS but the certainty of an established business policy. As in, if the LGS found a 70's made Gold Cup NIB stashed behind stacks of dusty old ammo, they'd sell it for the $275.00 price tag because that's the last price showing in their inventory list.

I've had things like that actually happen at small gun shops. Sportsman's Warehouse actually didn't walk me out just the corporate attitude is off-putting as is the slowness and sometimes incompetence.

My time is worth something too plus I'd rather support small shops. But in fairness small shops rarely get in a 2020 Python.

Newer ones seem to be OK I think the first few thousand or so had teething problems. I bought both mine to just put away new though. I hope to come across a used one to shoot later. I also picked up a new King Cobra but picked up a shooter one already used too.

I sold my new in box Cobra at the height of the pandemic. I'll pick up another later. RG and Turner's occasionally seem to get 2020 Pythons.

I'd buy one at half price because the chance to get a python revolver that doesn't revolve. Otherwise stick to cobra, or SW / Ruger / rhino at those prices. Get the best sw/ruger and ammo and accessories at python prices.

I had to wait 45 mins with multiple clerks and very few customers on pick up I really don't get it. Also I was forced to listen to country music the whole time including Garth Brooks live. Reason enough not to return.

I bought a few from them online hand had to wait 2 weeks after the date they gave me on my online order. Online it said that my A300 was shipped to store and ready for pick up while the 686 was pending. After 2 weeks and an e-mail or 2, I called the local store to ask about my order. They told me that both were in their store and ready to be picked up for over a week. I was bit disappointed with the online order tracking.

Any ways OP, how was the ammo there?

Wow. Sportsman's here won't do layaways on guns right now.
