It really depends on how patient you are and how diligently you are looking for a good deal; prices are starting to moderate and I've seen both the XD-45 and G21 for some reasonable prices (used and new). A Turners down here in the South Bay had a nice Gen 2 G21 on consignment for $450. I've also seen a few used XD-45's lately for $450-$520. There was a recent sale at a gunshop in Ventura where they were advertising new Glocks for $510-$515? There was also another sale ad here on this forum for a like new G21SF for $500.

The Obama panic buying is slowing and we should start to see asking prices come down.

First off get the glock. With that being said, your best bet is to join GSSF. GSSF will send you a cupon within a few weeks as patr of there annual purchase program, in which you get one handgun per annum at just under LEO pricing. Once you get that certificate, take it to L.C. supply in San Jose to redeem your new glock at a substantial discount. Be aware though if your not LEO they will be asses about it since they make 0 profit. But hey you come out on top right?

They still make money on the Glocks. They get real funny if your not a cop and start asking about guns. They'll sell you body armor, ammo, pepper spray, light bars, knives, but guns.....hell no those things are dangerous

If you don't want to join the GSSF and wait, call or go into Irvington Arms in Fremont.

I was there last week and bought a few guns. They had the Glocks priced at $545-$550 from the ones I saw. They are a great bunch of guys that are not gouging people, in fact their prices on most things I've looked at are the same as before the big rush. The only thing I noticed was more expensive and in short supply was ammo, but that's everywhere as the supply chain is mostly dry and cost has gone WAY up.

Go for the G21. More versatile, has more accessory options, .22 conversion kits, more/cheaper mags, carbine uppers, can get a 10mm slide, more gunsmiths, ect. ect. Its also made in Austria, known for their general precision and cool guns in particular, vs. Croatia, which isn't really known for anything.

Of course, the XD is not without its merrits. The grip frame is nice and narrow, and the forward cocking serrations are very cool. But, that's not enough to sell me on it, especially since those things can be added to the glock down the road, but not the other way around.

In 20 years, if the XD is as highly regarded as the glock is now, then I'll consider one. For now, I still consider the G21 the definitive combat .45.
