    gifting a handgun

If a handgun was bought by farther in law and given to my wife (his daughter) back in 1992 with no transfer paper work done and now she wants to give it to me (her husband) can I just do a DOJ intra-Family handgun transaction form from her to me? Or does she need to do one from farther to daughter first?

Legally she should send in the Intra Familial transfer. Under the law her gun is your gun, but if you must have it be in your name, wait till she gets the confirmation letter(about 3 months), then send in the DoJ form with the transfer from her to you.
I think it can be confirmed that an alien xenomorph is absolutely no match for good ole' Alabama black snake!

    and

If you're in a survival movie and the hot blond twists her ankle and can't walk, you damn well figure a way to carry her. If it's a dude, you shake his hand and say "best of luck".

You just need to fill out and send in the transfer paperwork and note it as a gift.

So would there be any problem with her putting down 1992 for date acquired on that form?

No. Under the law you cannot get in trouble for registering a gun late(even decades) if the only way the State becomes aware of it, is through your registration of the gun.

there's no such thing as "under your name" guns aren't registered, only transfers. either way, if I was you, I'd do nothing because her gun is your gun.

We all know what people can get away with, but since he clearly posted dates and circumstances. I was pointing out what the legal way to do it would be.

Are you sure about that? Then why is it called handgun registration?

Yes there are guns that are unregistered, but since 91 any legal transfer would have registered a handgun.

I'm not sure about all of this. I was told that if a gun were registered in my name and my wife were to use it to cause harm to another (legally justified or not) I would be in big trouble.

Be safe...Have your wife do the intra-familiar trans. Wait a few months then:
                        Do nothing..Legally hers is yours
                        OR
Do a PPT so it is officially in your name..
