Can’t go wrong with a stout wheel gun. Once the bullet leaves the barrel, it matters not what launched it. The 625 has often been overlooked; they are good shooters.

Nothing wrong with a good revolver. I have a “new” Colt Cobra .38, a 686 SSR, a pristine model 29-2 and a 657. The latter two will not be going away anytime soon and those would likely be the two handguns out of all I own that I would get rid of last. Just something about those wheel guns.

Revolvers in big cartridges are usually lighter than a semi-auto. A 6" 629 is lighter than a 6" Desert Eagle.

I still like a revolver to learn with. It's slower and gives more time to think about proper aim. IMHO it's a bit safer than having an instantaneous round ready to fire like a semi-auto. Call me old school but I like to teach new shooter on single shots. Personal preference I guess...

My 686+ would be one of the last of my handguns to go.

Revolvers are and will continue to be good choices, along with semi-autos. Here's why the revolver is good.

1.) Reliability. Semi-autos are easier to jam than revolvers. Not that a good semi-auto with good ammo is prone to jam; but it is easier for them by nature to do so. Also, you can shoot a semi-auto pistol from inside your jacket pocket...once. Then the slide binds on the pocket. With a revolver, that doesn't happen; you may have only five or six shots...but you will get all five or six from inside that coat pocket.

2.) Simplicity. If you get a failure to fire, with a semi-auto you have to do tap-rack-bang. With a revolver, you just pull the trigger again. Done. Also, revolvers, unlike most semi-autos, don't have external safeties (I know, Glocks don't either). A revolver is the original "point 'n' click" interface...or should that be "point 'n' bang" in this case? :-)

3.) Reloading/Handloading. Since revolvers don't throw the brass all over, it's even easier to recover your spent brass. If you're a reloader, this can be a very nice thing. Further, since the next round gets chambered by the hammer's movement instead of the previous round's energy, you can download a round much lower than you could get away with on a semi-auto pistol action. I have a .38 Special powder-puff load that the wife and I use for general marksmanship practice. The gentleness of this load encourages her to go to the range for practice. Meanwhile, when I want to shoot something heavier, like a .357M round, I'm free to do so.

4.) Racking the slide. Not everyone has hands strong enough to rack the slides on a lot of the semi-autos out here. My wife is one of those. However, she easily pulls back the trigger to cock her DA revolver in .357M. Yes, she shoots a DA revolver in single-action mode, cowboy style. She does this naturally. She hits the center a lot, too. :-)

So, revolvers and semi-autos both have their advantages, and one does well to appreciate both.

Agreed, also they are easier for newer shooters to start on, especially a Peacemaker clone !

I don’t know about you guys, but every time I’m in Sportsmans, there is always .41 Mag and .45 Colt on the shelves (as well as 10mm).

I’m already wed to .38/.357 but still, I have no issues sticking with my whirlenpoppers.

Considering the looming gun control, it's probably a good idea to pick up a revolver or two. Revolvers may be the only handguns we'll be allowed to own soon, and you'll pick them up before the inevitable insane rush for them.

It's all what your comfortable with. I'm a revolver guy and have three on my permit. I carried my sp101 with two speed loaders, that I know how to use fairly well, for two years exclusively. I have recently started carrying a 3" Colt King Cobra everyday. I bought a three pack of speed loaders for 24 rounds on board. It's working for winter time but those three loaders are a bit big for summer carry and concealment. I have a drop pouch with 6 rounds on a speed strip for better concealment under just a t shirt but I'm slow with a speed strip....no speed there at all for me. I need to figure out how to carry my new comp III's and hide them better or I will be switching back to the Ruger for summer time.

Also being a hand loader and having OCD a revolver lets me practice without worrying about were my brass is going.

Wise words, however, the rush has already begun.

Wheel guns are great. Great for plinking. Also great for home defense. No magazine springs failing or stovepipes. Plus, it won't jam if you're "limp-wristing" it. So it is great for some females to shoot. Plus, my wife likes shooting 38's for less recoil.

Some say revolvers are antiquated technology.

                            I say revolvers are timeless.

They look good, feel good, and shoot good. I just wish Colt would hurry up and make a deep royal blue Python and get that sucker on the CA roster.

Capacity and recoil arguments aside.....my S&W 340PD is just so light and unobtrusive for pocket carry. It leaves no excuse whatsoever for not carrying whenever you wish or need to be armed.
