You are now part of the CZ cult. Welcome.
They are fantastic pistols. Accurate, reliable, robust. Most people find them ergonomic as well. You are correct in that the added weight will soak up some of the recoil. More important, however, is a good high thumbs hold for recoil control (You're not really trying to fight recoil--you're just trying to hold the gun firmly enough to let the gun cycle and get the sights back on target quickly. A high thumbs hold gives you a secure, consistent platform to do this.)
The trigger pull initially will be gritty and creepy. This does smooth out with use, but do use the supplied snap caps to dry fire your way to a "poor man's trigger job" after several hundred pulls or so. Or just pony up for a decent trigger job, and you have yourself a sweet shooter for life.

9mm recoil is very subtle out of this gun but perceived recoil is different with every shooter. I can't comment on .40 cal CZs.
IMO they were one of the best kept secrets of the handgun world. Prices tags were once in the $300-400s. Since then they have gained much popularity which meant more $$. Accurate and well made firearms which felt great in the hands. So well made you can find many clones of the gun by other manufactures. I have a three CZ-75s (Standard, Tactical, SA) as well as a Kadet conversion (.22lr). I highly suggest you look into a the Kadet conversion for cheap practice. However you need to find .22 LR ammo....

The CZ 75 is a great handgun. Initially I wasn't too crazy about them but once I fired a CZ P-01 for the first time I was hooked. Five more CZs later, it's become my favorite 9mm.
Trigger was a bit gritty at first but they smooth out and all the CZs I have are very accurate and confortable to shoot.sigpicComment

I recently picked up my compact .40. The recoil doesn't seem much different than some polymer frame guns I've shot in .40 like the XD and Glock. But .40 recoil never seemed as bad as most 9mm and .45 fans like to say it is... to me.
I've only put 150 shots through it, and have pretty limited handgun experience, so take it as you will.Comment

The general rule is that the heavier (read: more weight) you have the less felt recoil you will deal with. So your wife is correct in this but do keep in mind that other factors come into play such as the round used and barrel length.
I myself will be picking up a pre-B CZ75 that I finally managed to track down. I think that as long as your wife's hands are large enough to accept the girth of the pistol grip she'll enjoy every moment with it.
Smooth double-action trigger and as reliable as they come. As someone already said, welcome to the CZ cult. ^_^"People who object to weapons aren't abolishing violence, they're begging for rule by brute force, when the biggest, strongest animals among men were always automatically 'right'. Guns ended that, and social democracy is a hollow farce without an armed populace to make it work." Clarissa in The Probability Broach by L. Neil Smith.Comment

Weight definitely attenuates recoil, but so do polymer frames which despite their light weight flex/compress ever so slightly and seem to dampen recoil impulse in that way also.
All the TZ/CZ's I've owned/shot have been average as far as recoil "feel" for all steel pistols. I've owned 2 TZ-75's and they have been the most accurate 9mm's I've owned. My CZ's in 40 S&W can't quite match the 9mm's effortless accuracy.

Depends on your ammo, honestly. Speer Lawman ammo is great "soft" ammo - the recoil is really nice in both their revolver and semiauto loads, it's my preferred round. Try finding some Lawman 124gr 9mm and using it in your CZ, they're a nice combo. You might also try some Aguila 115gr 9mm as well, it's a nice soft shooter with less perceived recoil.Comment
