S&W sigma is around $400sigpic Citizen by Choice, Patriot through Service -
I have been happy with my XD-40 Service. It's a nice gun that isn't complicated. You can get a trigger job also to eliminate the trigger take-up and overtravel if you want as well. I had my trigger lightened up also, feels like a great gun now. You can find them used for around $500.Comment

Not trying to butcher this thread, but may I ask where you got your trigger work done and how much it was? Also, I agree with this gentlemanI have been happy with my XD-40 Service. your options cheapest to most expensive in the $400-600 range, S&W sigma, xd40, beretta px4 storm(i have one see signature pic), S&W m&p40, beretta 96fs(looks like 92fs), theres also a ruger around that price dont remember the model, might be forgetting a couple models but id say those are your best optionsComment

XD-40 is my vote, I own one and couldn't be happier. Ergonomics are similar to 1911, with a slide release close to the thumb like the Sigs. They feel ALOT different than glocks even though many people describe them as similar.
I paid $550 for NIB XD-40 tactical. I'm sure you can find a used one for 500 or possibly less depending on the condition. The "best" handgun caliber debate rages on, meanwhile I just keep buying low recoil 00 buck.Comment

I bought a Px4 in .40 on Saturday. Picking it up on the 10th. It felt really nice in the hand and is an absolutely beautiful gun in my opinion.Beretta PX4 Storm .40 S&W (Round Count 3,050) | Yugo M72 | Romy M44

I have one of these CZ40B's. This thing is a great pistol. Accurate, reliable, eats whatever I feed it. Has never jammed. Nabbed it for 325.00 on Auction Arms. Can't go wrong with CZ.
You'll certainly get your money's worth out of an XD-40 as well. But this CZ is a great weapon. The Answer To 1984 Is 1776
