    FN 509 9mm.... thoughts?

I looking at a couple FN 509's online. The Midsize and the full size. I realize this is an off-roster pistol in CA, but anyone have any experience with this firearm? I moved to a free state and am looking at this pistol much closer.

I'm tired of Glocks, but I'm so used to the trigger because I trained on them I still shoot the best with them. I love the feel of S&W M&P's as well.

Basically I'm looking to move on from my CA neutered firearms.

Most of the reviews I see online and videos say the FN 509 is the best "out of the box" pistol on the market. Good cause I don't want to do a lot of aftermarket changes other than grips and lights.

Looking for thoughts on accuracy and reliability mainly. Looks like the FN 509 comes with 3 dot night sights standard?

    I recommend the FNX instead.
ATF Form 4473: If a frame or receiver can only be made into a long gun (rifle or shotgun), it is still a frame or receiver, not a handgun or long gun.

For a free state striker fired gun with appx $1k sticker price, I’d be interested in sig p320x5 legion or Walther PPQ Q5

I see them around and would like to try as a full size alternative to my g34 but just can’t bring myself to accept the need to pay the off roster premium

FN is usually solid. Their customer service dept. is hit or miss from what I understand.

OP, after owning most Glock models, I thought I got sick of Glocks and I too bought various brands, CZ, Sig, and the FN 509 you mentioned. 509 is decent, good purchase with no regret but it didn’t really stand out to me, especially the trigger, but the CZ and Sig though did.

Nice! I think this is the first time I’ve seen you not recommend to buy or stay with a Glock instead.

+1 on the FNX. I got one a few years ago and converted it to 460 Roland. It's pushing 252gr cast rnfp a little over 1400. Solid firearms and their customer service is good. The only drawback I've seen is the price tag.

So you might want to go ahead and buy it and see how you like it.

Since you aren’t in California are there any ranges around you renting them?

I used to want a Browning High Power until I got to shoot a rental at a range. It felt horrible in my little girly man hands so I ended up not getting it. I had a similar experience with a Beretta 92.

If you ever find yourself in this situation again I have some hands to hold those guns for you

@OP - Get a Sig P226/P229, upgrade the trigger with the grayguns trigger bar and forget about your striker fired red-headed stepchildren. Living in a free state, you have access to some of the best guns on the market at fair prices - treat yourself !

I own one, it's a great pistol. I was able to get the LEO version from my LEO neighbor before he moved out of state. The gun is very accurate and soft shooting even with 124grn NATO round for it was designed for. Because they were designed for such a hot round the recoil spring are pretty stout so if you're shooting light rounds, the gun might not cycle. After a few hundred rounds, the recoil spring does loosen up. Will have no problems shooting factory rounds.

One thing to note. There have been reports of broken firing pins. Usually, because people are dry firing without snap caps. APEX makes a great replacement. Also, my stock trigger is great. I may have gotten lucky, and this from a guy spoiled with great 1911 triggers.

Here is a vid shooting up to 30 yards:

A lot of guys on Facebook are saying that they are upgrading the striker firing pin to Apex.

I have the FNX45 Tactical and the 509 Tactical, love them both. I upgraded the striker in the 509 to the Apex heavy duty striker, but haven't had any problems with either of them.
