I acquired an S&W Model 69 .44 Mag Combat Magnum snubby from a Calgunner, sprung it from jail on Tuesday and gave it a trial run today with 50 rounds of .44 Special. Wanted to get familiar with the gun before testing full-power mags. I really had wanted a .44 Special S&W snubby but they are almost impossible to find since they were made for only a couple of years and weren't popular. The Model 69 is basically the same gun with longer chambers. Anyway, it's a terrific shooter with a very smooth double action trigger at about 10 pounds and a very light single action trigger - S&W at its best. Oddly, while both modes are very accurate I found double action worked better for me, probably from years of shooting DAO Ruger and S&W snubbies and DO/SA autoloaders. I plan to shoot Specials about 99% of the time and Mags only when I'm in the wide open spaces and want to punish myself. I would call the Model 69 a modern classic and it'll be in my arsenal when I go the big shooting range in the sky.

Fine looking roscoe you got!
I too was an adoring fan of the S&W 696 in the late 90’s but got talked out of ordering one for my 21st birthday - but it’s kinda good that I didn’t because I was pretty fickle when I was younger and I would REALLY kick myself now had I bought one and then let it go!Originally posted by ysr_racerPlease don't bring logic and reason into an interwebs discussion
