I'm of the school of thought that if you know your gun any gun will do.

Next, I came to a realization that I spend too much money on range/competition vision, and neglect my home defense vision.

My unassisted vision is far sighted, and I can't see the front post for crap.

So, I'm going to be going to a Red Dot HD pistol. Because I am not going to be having range glasses ready so I may as well use a Red Dot configuration since my use regular eye pro with a dot

Outside of that, knowing your gun, and keeping it at the ready and safe from prying eyes is my priority.

Which one did you take through your CQB/self defense course? If you haven't taken self defense pistol and CQB/close quarters tactics courses, then you need to stop worrying about "which gun" and get trained.

Just get yourself a Glock and and this insanity. Get it cuz it works. Don't fall into the 1911 hype. Buy something that works every time. Then practice with it.

But to your point, yes its true. All the Glock fanboys couldn’t fathom using something else. The older revolver guys have been using a revolver for years, so they might stick with that. Any gun can fail or run reliably. Anyone can be very proficient with almost any gun. Just takes the ole’ practice. I’m of the opinion that its best to keep fresh on all kinds of HD factors. Lighting, entries, angles, access points....just different things really. Also, I sometimes use my 1911’s for bedside, I can shoot those the best and I have only had 100% reliability out of all my center fire guns. Typically, if a gun fails, I get rid of it.

What do you guys prefer in your HD handgun? My current preference is a Glock and striker fired pistols for their simplicity.

• Primary Home Defense - Glock 21SF Gen 3 (see below) replacing the HK USP Expert 45
• Easily accessible backup in the study - Glock 19 Gen 3 replacing the Beretta PX4 Storm (which I already sold)
• Backup from quick-access safe - Glock 34 Gen 3
• Carry outside California - Glock 26 Gen 3 replacing the M&P Shield 9

Simple reason for me is that it is the platform that I am most familiar with, most experience, and most capable...

But I will be honest - if it weren't for the CA Roster, I would have chosen a different platform.

I prefer to have an external safety, but that’s just me.

I have a theory that choice of firearm type for HD is partially dependent on the most popular type of handguns at the time of first purchase.

I think preference changes over time, at least for me.
