    Restoring an old Glock frame

    Hello Calguns,

I recently purchased a police trade-in Glock 23 that had some good wear on it.

The slide seems to be in decent condition - no huge nicks or dents in the metal. It's mainly the frame that I am wondering about. What would you do to make the frame look as best as possible? (I know cosmetics is not a big deal but I want to clean it as best as I can from the get-go)

I can post pictures later but basically the finish on the frame doesn't look the uniformly consistent throughout. There are some parts that are shinier than others and some parts that look kinda matted. Also, near the barrel, on the rail where attachments slide in (that little notch), there is some whiteish powdery stuff on it. It might be a stain (couldn't really put my finger in there to feel it or try and remove it - since it is being held for 10 day dros currently).

Anyway, just wondering if anyone has had any experience with getting worn down Glocks. Thanks Calguns!

Oh I haven't thought of that, hmmm I may consider doing that.

Do you know of any reputable places that do it in California?

Mannnn I'm really digging the look of a 2-tone Glock (FDE lower with a stock upper, or an OD lower)

If you don't end up changing the color of the frame itself, you could always get fde/od colored grip tape or even a hogue sleeve to get that two tone look. I have fde grips on my Beretta 92fs and it's pleasing to look at.

Still waiting for the 10 day DROS but once I get it I'll have a better idea of whether or not I want to get it cerakoted or not. The FDE grips look great though.

Anyone know what's considered a good price on cerakoting a Glock frame?

Does the cerakote fade over time? Does it affect the function of the grip at all?

                that looks pretty good.

                Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

Strip the frame, wash it in hot water with dish soap while scrubbing with a toothbrush or a slightly stiffer brush like a vegetable scrub brush. Rinse under very hot water, shake and let it dry.

You can leave in the mag catch spring and slide lock spring while you do this.

Bead blasting it will give a uniform texture.

I'd like to see the pictures when you bring it home. A used service pistol will definitely have lots of wear marks from riding in a retention holster for years, but I think that "well used" guns have more charachter than just another plastic gun among the millions around.

Ceracote will scratch and chip on plastic.

If the Glock works- it works

Shine is frequently from polishing wear going into and out of a holster.

Nothing that needs to be fixed. Keep training with it and enjoy it

Some might say to use a 3m pad to scuff the shine - don’t do it. It’s not broken.
