I was looking into doing the same for my P226 but I ended up getting rid of it. I usually refer to youtube. Hopefully this helps.

Change the locking insert out with a free state model and you can get rid of the mag disco and use aftermarket triggers

Is there even a need to go this far to make aftermarket triggers work? I didn't think there were any physical differences between the normal insert and the mag disco insert other than the small hole and opening for the pin/spring/cam assembly on the CA version. Since you can just drive the pin out to remove the mag disconnect on the CA versions wouldn't doing so free any obstruction preventing a trigger from working?

Do love the straight triggers on a few of my SIGs

Honestly I do not know if it is required to get the aftermarket triggers to work. I do know that most trigger makers say it wont but that could just be their lawyer talking. I do not and would never own a nanny-state Sig so I cannot say for sure.

But what I do know is that if you want to get the stain of Newsom/Pelosi/Harris/Nunes out of your gun and gain back a little self respect, then you replace that abomination of a locking insert, and the slide too. Being able to use any trigger you want is just gravy after that.

Curious, do I need to remove OR replace the insert?

The insert is required, you can either use the free state or nanny state insert. The free state insert will for sure let you use aftermarket triggers. YMMV with the nanny state insert.

Any downside in getting the machined vs nickel vs Phosphate?
