One of a set of four WWI commemorative 1911's made by Colt...And all this was just a Google search away from you...

In 1968, Colt chose to commemorate the first World War by producing a commemorative Model 1911 in remembrance of the four most noted battles of World War I. Total standard production for each Model was 7,400 guns. These were all Pre-Series 70 Models. For accuracy they were made with flat mainspring housing, long triggers, checkered slide stop and safety, and checkered wide spur hammers, and the Type II beveled proper rear sight. The Battle of Chateau Thierry features the high polish blue finish with the diamond checkered walnut grips and the commemorative medallion and tag. Each is housed in its special wood display case with a description of the battle, in this case "US victory at Chateau Thierry. Contributing decisively to the stemming of the German tide." The left side of slide has a roll engraved battle scene and the right side has the World War I banner with the dates "1917-1967", the 50th anniversary of our entering the war.

It's a Colt commemorative model. It's part of a series of four or six. Google it.

Google seems to be beyond some people...I searched just because I was curious.

It is C&R by listing, even though it is less than 50yd old. That means they can be imported into CA.

Pre panic, IIRC they went for $1400-$1600 new in box

Nope. You nailed it in your first post.

All these 'Franklin Mint' style commemorative series guns really just amount to little more than: a Colt .45 in a wooden box.

The 'story', tacky refinish, and bad cast/roll/machine/laser "engraving" is merely added to sell it.

This. I wouldn't pay a "collector item" premium, and I probably WOULD shoot it... with some decent grips.

OK to the back of the safe. Maybe it will be worth something to the grand kids in 50 to 100 years unfired.

It would be neat if you already had other WWI/WWII Colts. Otherwise, it's mostly a picture hanging on a wall type of gun.
