    Buckmark FTF

    Hi All,
Hopefully all is well with you!
I had a strange occurrence yesterday, shooting a Browning Buckmark handgun. I had fired this gun a couple of weeks ago, using CCI MiniMags, with no failures. I took it out yesterday. Using Remington Thunderbolts, and could barely get the gun to fire. I put the ammo through another firearm, and it worked perfectly. The gun is clean and well oiled.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

    What was the other gun?

Usually the Buckmark needs at least 500 rounds of high velocity ammo (like CCI mini-mags) run through it to break it in.

Also Remingtom thunderbolts are also know as thunderturds because they run so bad in many semi automatics.

A copper coated or plated bullet will feed better than a bare lead bullet profile.

Agree with above. Thunderbolts after a good break-in period.

The other firearms; Ruger SR-22, and a S&W revolver.

The Buckmark is well broken in. I know that the Thunderturds are not particularly good, but they fed and fired well in the Ruger.

Did they jam up trying to feed, or just not feed? Did the slide lock back after the last round?

Did they eject OK, or just barely out?

I definitely agree on the break in period, though sounds like that's not the issue in this case.

I would say every once in a while mine needs a more thorough than normal cleaning and FTF etc. is the signal for me to do that.

Polish the feed ramp with some Flitz, a Dremel, and a cotton polishing tip. Then smooth out the rails with a Scotch-Brite fine (maroon) and ultra fine (gray) pad.

They ejected when I racked the slide back. Every occurrence was a FTF. The few that fired, ejected properly. The slide did lock back after the last round, if it fired.

Sounds like your pistol is fine, it just doesn't like Thunderbolts.

Probably not it, but check the screws that hold the barrel in place.

If they are loose, remove, clean, apply blue Loctite.

without even looking at it & without even really reading your post I know what the problem is... why because it is a Buckmark and everyone seems to have the same problem with them.

the screws on the top strap are loose - don't use locktite rather put a couple wraps of Teflon tape (plumbers tape) on the screw and reinstall - throw those stupid washers that came with it away as they don't do a damn thing anyway... simply use the tape and then send me some beer for solving your problem for you.

And that is why Ruger SR-22 or even MkIII/IV is worth paying the premium when you can find it.

Mrs. Garv would trade me before she would give up her SR-22.
(Of course, that is an easy choice, I am a lot more trouble.)
