    Springfield Customer Service A+

Thought i would give you guys an update on my warranty work through Springfield's Customer Service.

I called early this month to ask someone about the right side of my ambidextrous safety on my SA TRP 1911 not fully functioning. Call was brief, made on my way to work. I mainly wanted to talk to someone about how i could remedy the problem, but before i knew what hit me the very nice lady on the other end of the phone was explaining how i had a lifetime warranty and that they would email me a shipping label ASAP. At first i was not to enthused about the idea of shipping my pistol across the country to get it worked on when all is wrong is one side of the safety is a little bit finicky about disengaging, but i figured since it was an overnight label and it didnt cost me anything i would.

So i pack up my pistol and shipped it back a couple of weeks after receiving the label. They received the package on the 20th of this month, day after i dropped it off. And today about 10 minutes ago i receive a call from them saying that the work is complete, and they replaced my existing ambidextrous safety with a standard extended safety per my request. I never really liked the idea of the ambi safety in the first place. Then i asked if they could schedule it to be shipped so that i can receive it at home on a friday as my office has been cut back to 4 days a week and fridays are the days i took off. Again, nice lady on the phone had no problem with this and said she would ship it out tomorrow.

Looks like its going to be a great weekend for me as i get my pistol back before my birthday! I cannot wait to get my pistol back by my side. It really is nice to see a company go out of their way to make a customer happy. Now i need an M1A

I had a different experience via e-mail customer service. I asked if the frame for the 4" and 5" XD's of the same caliber were the same,
      ie: would a 5" 9mm slide assembly fit on a 4" 9mm frame, and also if a 5" 9mm barrel would fit in to a 4" 9mm slide.
      The answer I got was:

"We do not sell these items separately. I hope this answers your question, blah, blah, etc...
      signed, whatever her name was"

Not helpful at all. I'm glad to hear that they can be more helpful over the phone. Maybe I'll give them another chance.

I would like to say something profound here...

I've had a couple XD's worked on by Jeremy at Springfield Custom. In talking to him, I was asking if I could build a Tactical Compact by taking the 5" top end off of a Tactical and putting it on a Compact frame (45ACP). Although the fit may not be perfect (barrel to frame), he said there was no problem safety-wise in doing so.....accuracy-wise, I'm not sure. I haven't ended up actually trying it yet on a range, but function-wise, everything was working fine.

Their lifetime warranty is specifically because they don't sell parts for their guns. Their response accurately reflects that. You would need to buy two pistols to do what you are proposing, as of this moment I am not aware of anyone that makes aftermarket slides for their XD line....
