I got to go to school today

I went up to the Galt PD today and sat in on a Glock Armorers course.

For the last couple of weeks I had been asking myself, "how the heck are they going to teach working on Glocks all day long?" Glocks only have 34 parts, how long could it take.
I think in the whole room 3 of us were not cops. There were like 3 dozen doughnuts there Most of them were still there when class was over, ok some.

This class was mostly repetition. A little history is covered, the diferences between models and parts interchangability. Then we went over the gen 3 glock 22 again and again and again. I think I can take one apart nearly to nothing and reassemble in under a minute..not that this has ever been a goal of mine.

I guess it was fun and it makes me a certified armorer, but I think the instructors class would be more fun. I like the idea that your going to need at least 1000 rounds now thats a cool class.
I was hoping to get to buy a bunch of parts at the class but they didn't bring anything to sell.

Now I'd like to take an armorers class up at Susanville.
Anyone ever gone to any other armorer type schools?

It was mostly review. I'd been through a few before, but I did learn a thing or two..

I did learn how to function test a glock and how to check the trigger engagment, etc..

How did you find out about the armorers/instructors courses? I had no idea that they were offering courses in this region. How much was the tuition? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

All I had to do was buy a gun store and become a Glock Stocking Dealer and they sent me to school for free. The classes are open to LE and stocking dealers. You can find out more @ glocktraining.com

I replced the cops extractor today.. I also installed the correct bearing to make sure it would extract reliably. This guy managed to damage the sleeve inside the fireing pin hole some how. It's the part the guys in class said never goes bad. I need to order one just in case he comes back.

The armorers video was almost as good as the class... don't tell glock I said so

No offense and this is partially tounge in cheek but do you really need a course to work on a glock? There's only what, 20 parts and a couple of springs and nothing I can see that takes fitting like most semi-autos or a revolver. :-) Don't get me wrong, I like Glocks, I have 5 but really....

Your right it is a simple gun.. Being certified makes it so I can work on your gun... as a shop owner I cant imagine what my insureance would say if I told them I was working on guns I'm not certified for..

As a certified armorer I can also get the parts from glock alot cheaper than they can be bought comercially.

They have 34 parts

So, can you fit a new barrel to a Glock 20 if the "drop-in" barrel doesn't exactly drop in?

Too bad. I did read somewhere online about the mechanism of the G18 - it's a rather ingenious design, it trips the sear plate each time the slide returns to battery for as long as the trigger is pulled. If I ever stumble across the diagrams and pictures again, I'll share!
