questions regarding PPQ subcompact

Looking for some help regarding my son's new Walther PPQ subcompact. We noticed that when the striker is de-cocked and we check the breech face (i.e. cycling the gun after dry firing or removing the slide) the firing pin is protruding. Is this a part of the gun's design? All of my other guns have spring loaded firing pins that move the firing pin back automatically after pulling the trigger. The firing pin only gets pushed into the cocked position shortly before entering battery after cycling the slide. Thanks in advance. Will post pics if needed.

I can’t answer your question, but have a related concern/question that stopped me from buying a used PPQ M2 subcompact in 9mm that was available to me in a PPT last year. It is my understanding that the subcompact PPQ will not properly accept or function with the full size PPQ magazines. I like that a Glock 26 will take Glock 17 and Glock 19 mags. Since I own a full size PPQ, that was a deal breaker on getting a subcompact one as well.

My 5" PPQ M2 has a striker spring to keep it back and a safety plunger that needs to be depressed before the striker can move forward.
I can't imagine Walther would remove those safety items for the compact, my understanding is the only difference between M1 and M2 was the mag release.
Is it a M1 or M2?
