    What would you do?

I stumble upon a little hole in the wall gun store. Don't all great stories start like this? My first visit, I went in to kill some time. I was early for an appointment. I'm not usually in this area. I told myself to make it a point to go back when I am. On my first visit, they mentioned that they had new old stock mags for my Ruger Mark 1. They said it would be best to bring it in with me to verify fit. I was going back to that area today, so naturally I brought the Mark 1 with me.

I pick up two new old stock mags still in their old boxes. I mention to the gentleman, that it's not as fun to shoot anymore because aging eyes don't see the dark metal front sight. He say I've got a solution and brings out some paint just for this purpose. He puts a nice little white spot right where it's needed, no charge. Places like this are such a pleasure to find.

While I'm waiting for the paint to dry a bit, I take a more detailed look around. Last time they had a nice selection of used pistols. I was hoping to find something interesting for my upcoming birthday. The first thing I spot is a used HK USP 45 with a CA date code. That thing is almost brand new. It's been on my short list for a while. Then I spot a brand new Glock 20 @ $649. I've never been a big fan of Glocks. But since, I've had my 10mm lust, it wasn't excluded from my possibilities. DW Kodiak being at the tops of my list, followed by the Sig P220 Legion. But those would require "help" to land. This was right in front of me with what seemed like a non-gouge price. Not familiar enough with Glocks to even know what a normal price would be.

I wanted that HK, but this place also had an unusually great assortment of ammo. I knew right away this was gonna be an expensive day. I was going to have to pick one pistol if I was going to take advantage of the available ammo. I decided on the Glock. I already have one 45acp, but no 10mm. They had an ample supply of 10mm ammo to help get me comfortable.

Now that I'm home, that HK is still in my mind. Damn it, I know I should have just gotten both. There's always tomorrow. It's easier to ask for forgiveness, than permission. One pistol can be explained, two will be more challenging.

I'm not really willing to share the info about my little hole in the wall. I prefer to keep this place to myself.

Did I get bent over on the price? Any recommendations on an great OTW holster? What would you have done?

no 649 is completely normal right now for glocks, the only cheaper price i saw was up in chico at sportsman warehouse they were 579.99 for the 10mm and 357sig, but they sold out shortly after and the 9mm and 40cal glocks were all $50 more and not in stock. Most glocks in the consignment cases are all 1-1500. 10mm is a good choice right now because its one of the few calibers i notice in stock still, 9 and 40 are very difficult to find.

You saw a SIG LEGION? WHERE lol....i want i want...

i pack my glocks IWB using Tulster kydex holstes since glock doesnt have any safety its good to have a solid holster that lines up directly with the glock to prevent ND...

You did well, nothing to worry about. Glock 20 should be able to fire .40 without any modifications - extractor holds the round against the breachface and everything works as expected.

As for explaining two pistols, what you don't see you don't have to explain...

Why are you even worrying about the price at this point? Go shoot it and enjoy

If you can get the HK too and if you feel the ammo prices are fair, take the whole stock .

Who knows how long the current shortages will last and if you can find those guns on your list in the future.

        Congrats on your finds

Price is fine, especially from a smaller shop. You’ll love the G20 - and yes, they shoot .40 S&W just fine stock. Thanks for supporting local business!

Early Ruger mags will fit Standard, MK1 & MK2. If they are real early you need to swap the side the pin is on.

I found the same sorta store in '08, right as all the .223 disappeared. Had PRE-Q3131 on the shelf, some old UMC and Federal AE in BIG red boxes. He even had some NORINCO yellow box .223. All of it around $6 - $8 a box, when the cheapest thing on-line or in box stores was $12 a box minimum.

              I bought all he had.

Keep the store for yourself? I guess if you really appreciated this business, you wouldn’t think to do that. What an odd thing to say.

I cant believe you left the HK USP 45 with CA date code behind!

the HK USP 45 is a bad@ss gun

I would go back and put it on hold for your next purchase, dont let it get away if the price is reasonable.

I will always tell others about a good store.
Unless my purchases will keep the doors open than NOT steering others to them is a disservice.
Auburn Guns & Ammo in Placer.
Bighorn Gun Shop in El Dorado.
                      Have always had great service.
Granted since the BS started I have not purchased or visited.
During normal times would stop in just to look and talk.
Bought them lunch at Poor Reds just to say thanks, my idea of a tip
I need to put my mask on and drop in.

If that store gets new customers, "John told me about you so I wanted to check you out"
They will feel all that hard work makes them stand out.

Why not tell them what you are looking for and what you are willing to pay for it?

                        Nice post, thank you.

                        The price was fine.

BTW......I noticed your join date, June 2005. Don't be shy. It's OK to come back and post more than 1.6 threads per year. There's plenty of room in the family.

                        Thanks again.

I also whited out the front blade of Ruger Mk pistol.

Really helps. Nice of that shop to do that for you.

Perhaps later today after I decide if I'm going back to try and secure that HK. Damn this temptation is overwhelming. Yesterday, they would only sell me one box of .45. Perhaps if they allow me to get more than just a few boxes, it would seal the deal.
