    APEX vs ZEV extractors

I just saw that ZEV has an "improved" extractor for the 9mm Glock models. I was looking at the extractor from APEX thinking they were the only ones making the improved part. Now I wonder if any one here has had experience with one vs the other....or maybe has tried both? Thank you to everyone for reading this and to those who reply. Love the knowledge everyone has on here, I have always found this site a great help.

What issues have you experienced with the factory OEM extractor? What is it that you are trying to fix?

Switching out the ejector to a Gen4 ejector may help more than extractor. And its cheaper than a new extractor.

        Assuming you mean 9mm Glocks

Isn't that more due to the ejection port rather than the ejector?

Some aftermarket slide manufacturers "tune" the port by lowering and contouring it...

I've changed the ejector, taking the one that is standard on a Gen 4 G17 and installing it into my Gen 3 G17 and it helped a lot. Just still get some wild fliers. I'm not someone who likes to modify a whole lot of items I own but some aftermarket products do help function and I was curious if anyone has ran these aftermarket extractors. Especially interested to hear from anyone who has experience with extractors from both aftermarket companies.

With no disrespect intended and in all seriousness, the fix is likely to be an increased in strong hand wrist tension

Imagine your forearm is like a steel wrench, and keep up the tension so you can maintain the appropriate strong hand wrist angle.

              That’s my $0.02 anyway

Unfortunately that is going to be a problem. My grip strength is limited due to an injury. I use to own a Desert Eagle and I was no longer able to control it for it to properly cycle and go into battery 100% of the time and I ended up selling it.

I’m really sorry to hear that OP. The wrist tension seems like it could be independent of grip strength though?

You may want to consider transitioning to a heavier pistol like an all metal 1911 so you can have more control with similar grip strength level

Or other mods like grip tape, heavier guide rod and different recoil spring on a G34 or G17L, if you want to stay with the Glock platform

Or perhaps going to a PCC so you can have additional points of support and more leverage to control the recoil.

Hope you continue to enjoy shooting in good health

Interested in the answer (from older post)

If anyone has put the two extractors side by side or has experience with them, I'd love to hear. From my read the Apex actually says if you are not using a Glock OEM slide it may not fit and function as well on an aftermarket slide due to slight variations. Zev doesn't say it doesn't work but mentions its made for OZ9 slide or Glock OEM.

I am putting together a JCS slide and considering the Zev versus just getting a generic or OEM extractor. Probably doesn't matter either way but Zev is about $20 more on a $25 part so almost double...

How many rounds do you have down the pipe? I've found that brand new Glocks sometimes throw the shells at your face or forehead. Once they break in they don't seem to have that problem anymore.

Also, Glocks are probably the worst possible gun to own if you have a weak grip. Not only will they sometimes throw the shell in your face with a weak grip, but they will likely malfunction too.

I would suggest trying an all metal gun like a 1911, or all metal Sigs, CZ's, and HK's. They are far more forgiving if you have a weak grip.

                        Good luck.

In order do one at a time to see what helps

Swap ejector to gen 4 or Gen 5
Use non lci plunger (even on a lci gun)
                          Go apex
                          Add hred

Usually 1 and 2 are enough to fix the issues
