    This Pistol CA Compliant?

    Hello fellow CA gunners,

I've been out of the loop for long time and haven't really paid any attention to recent laws and changes. So to save me the research and hours of reading, I figured I'd just ask outloud.

Is this Pistol CA legal and my I ship it to may FLL? I keep hearing 2 sides. I'm ready to buy and all my ffls are either extremely busy or phones lines are just backed up as well as e-mails.

    Thanks for the input.

The only Colts I see on the roster are revolvers. I found that out with 30 seconds of research and reading.

Not on roster. You can search the roster online.

Okay, I'll add that my research consisted of typing California Handgun Roster in Google, then looking at Colt.

It has to either be on the Roster or you have to prove that the handgun is at least 50 years old (aka the C&R exemption) for it to be brought into CA through an FFL. That's excluding alternate methods like in-state PPT's or intra-familial transfers.

            Thanks Verdha603,

That's exactly the grey area I wasn't getting clear answers about. I was also under the impression that if it was used and not a factory direct gun it was ok. But I guess the PPT is only IN-State. Not out off.

It is CA legal but it is not on roster. Also having been made in 1982 is also not C&R for 11 more years, when it will become exempt from the roster assuming no changes to the law (which is a huge leap of faith in CA).

Your best bet is to find one made before 1971 or find an older National Match and a dealer who will process it as C&R because the Nat Match is listed as C&R by ATF. Or find any model/any year via PPT

Unfortately everything is very hard to find right now even 9mm C&R Colts.

PS - used or new does not matter when it comes to the roster. There is no exemption for used or pre owned.

A pistol can also be C&R exempt if it is on the Federal C&R list, regardless of age. The list can be found on-line.

You might also put out a WTB ad. There are more than a few of these in CA. This one is 9mm and still unfired - they are out there!
