Anybody have a review or personal experience with this ?? Is there a big difference between this and a 1911?? I am totally new to this platform and could use some educating. I cant find 1911 I like that is in stock or my price range anywhere, I would really like a Springfield but they are nonexistent.

It's a 1911 It's a commander the barrel/slide is 3/4" shorter than a fullsize/government model 1911. But the frame is the same size on both.sigpicOriginally posted by victor1echoHollywood is satan!!!!Comment

The 1911 Combat Commander is one of my favority .45s. Go for it!"Most people understand that guns deter criminals. If a killer were stalking your family, would you feel safer putting a sign out front announcing, "This Home Is a Gun-Free Zone"? But that is what the Westroads Mall did" (in Omaha, Neb).

Similiar to a Government model, 3/4" shorter slide, same length frame, shorter dustcover.
Still gonna be a great gun, rattles with a heavy stock trigger. But, it'll be fun. What happened to the original plan for a Springfield Milspec?
This one will take slightly longer to detail strip. 2 extra levers in the frame, a plunger and spring in the slide. The Series 80 firing pin block is a good design.Comment

I would love the Springfield Milspec, if I could find one! Any idea who may have one?Similiar to a Government model, 3/4" shorter slide, same length frame, shorter dustcover.

LOL good reason. It's been a while since I've seen a Milspec around.
Good choice on the Colt, have you stopped by Ammo Bros? They might have some in stock. It was a while ago, but last time I was in there they carried Colts and had a stainless Commander as well.Comment

Full size and Commander are both known for reliability.
I have a Commander (DW CBOB) and I definitely prefer it to full size.
Looks good, let us know how it shoots.Igitur qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum.Comment

I bought my Commander in '87 and its been a shooter ever since. Its not set up as tight as my Wilson Comabt CQB by any stretch of the imagination but at combat range it'll get the job done.Things usually turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out.

I'm a big fan of the Commander length pistols.
You're not giving up very much in terms of velocity or reliability, and the piece seems tom"point" better than the GM lengths, at least for me.
When quick point shooting, both eyes open, my poi on quick doubles is closer with a Commander length than a GM length pistol.
I say go for it. If there are any plastic parts on it switch them out with Wilson stuff and you can't go wrong. The way some gunshop clerks spout off, you'd think that they invented gunpowder and the repeating rifle, and sat on the Supreme Court as well.

It's a very nice gun, better buy it now before the prices go up again. Just in case you're thinking about buying the commander for home defense/CCW use then buying a 5" top end for range use - It will work but cosmetically ugly with the dust cover length not matching the 5" slide. Just a heads up since I've heard it over and over again from folks about to jump in the 1911 bandwagon. The wise man said just find your place

*chuckle* Yeah, that was the same problem I had a few weeks ago. Looks like as soon as word got out on the issues that Kimber models had they all but dried up. Wound up going with a SW1911 myself which I'll be picking up today. *happy bounces*
Nice find and I hope you enjoy it!
Ladyfox,
who thinks it should be a requirement for everyone to have at least one 1911 at home"People who object to weapons aren't abolishing violence, they're begging for rule by brute force, when the biggest, strongest animals among men were always automatically 'right'.
