    UOC

I am 19 years old. If my father transfers a handgun to me, can I legally UOC?

If so, what are the laws in regards to a loaded magazine? If I have the gun on my hip, can I have a loaded magazine or moon clip in my pocket?

I've seen this topic posted several times, but never for a 19 year old.

    Thanks

I didn't see anything that specifically referred to whether or not UOC is legal for a "minor"

I thought you had to be 21 in CA to legally have a handgun transferred to you. Is there some exception for family?

If you can legally own a firearm, you can UOC. See the link posted by Hammerhands, get comfortable, read till your eyes dry out, and let us know if you have more questions.

I know many of you feel very strongly about uoc BUT bwiese has warned you that the Calguns foundation will not help defend you right now as they have a lot of "stuff" on their plate.

I recommend you hold off but that is only my opinion.

what he said. I thought about UOC when I go pick up my wife from work late at night. But I figured I'd rather spend the money that I might have to spend on legal fees in case something goes wrong on something else. So I got my wife a pepper spray and a whistle

                Yes.

It's legal for parent/grandparent to transfer a handgun to 18 or older child/grandchild. See http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/in...Family_Members

The restriction is Federal law (and repeated in CA law) on licensed dealers transferring handguns to under-21.

As has already been noted, there is no age limit established for legal unloaded open carry (nor is there an age limit mentioned in PC 12050 for CCW).

That said, it doesn't seem to me to be a good idea in most areas of the state, yet.

Let's be realistic here. If you are <21 years old, the police will hassle you even if you have legal possession of the handgun.

With the issue of UOC not as fully understood as say bullet buttons and OLLs, why invite this grief upon yourself by wearing a pistol on your hip?

Wouldn't you rather be chasing young women (or men -- whatever floats your boat) on a Friday night vs. having a long winded conversation from the backseat of a troop car with a cop who is going to have a hard time taking you seriously due to your age?

Plus, if you get hauled in by the cops on some technicality (perhaps you strayed into a 1000ft school zone), you are going to derail your life in dealing with the police/attorneys/etc -- even if you come from a family "of means."

Is that worth it just to have a pistol on your hip on a Friday night?

Don't UOC unless you have at least $10,000 to spend on expert lawyers to represent you in your defense should you end up in a similar situation as shown in this thread:

While I can certainly understand your argument, I feel it is a little... passive. I don't think too many of our gun rights have been gained back by people simply saying "it's not worth the risk, let's just sit at home and do nothing."

If it is not illegal, nobody should be afraid of anything.

I'll start by getting a handgun, maybe I'll go from there.

There you go. Have at it, you are 19 and have plenty of time. It's a good idea from people who know (from what I hear/read here) to have $5K to $10K to defend yourself even though you are completely legal. Post here when it happens so we can follow your story and cheer you on.
