    Moved From Virginia

I'm confused as to the laws around bringing handguns from other states into CA. I have a ruger lcp and Sig P320 that i owned in Virginia. Can i bring them to California and register them in my name here? I'm confused as to what i've read. Seems like yes, i can and then again since they aren't legal in CA I've read i can't bring them here.
    Thank you for any help!

Yes, you or anyone else can own them here. They are not illegal to own, they just can not be purchased from dealer stock or dealer transfer. You can not however have mags that hold more than 10 rounds for the time being.

      Thank you.
Any special way to register them in CA or just complete the form?

If "high cap mags" are blocked to 10rd or less they are okay.

They are legal in CA, they just cannot be bought from dealers or imported from out of state by non-LEO unless they come with a new resident or from direct family.

Create a CFARS account and use the form there when you are ready (within 60 days of moving here).

There are plenty of P320 and LCP in private hands here, but the more the merrier

Is there a time frame for "New Resident"? What happens if I didn't register my weapon within 60 days?

Probably nothing since nobody but you knows about them. But, you are afoul of the law.
Not sure if black choppers would show up or any one from a three letter agency be knocking on your door. Or, they may, and you would not want that.
60 days is plenty of time to either register them to your name or sell them once you get your CA identification/Drivers licence.

Welcome OP! Sorry you have to navigate through our BS web of gun laws. We'd appreciate your help by voting R in the upcoming elections.

You can sell or register them within 60 days. If you miss the deadline to report there is a grace period, but only if you don't get found out before you self report.

OP, don't forget to buy a few more, the so-called CA off-roster, pistols if you can.
I missed that opportunity when I moved back to CA 10 years ago.

I moved to Virginia, I would buy some more guns in VA incase you ever decide you don't want them anymore and can sell for a premium in CA.

Also no threaded barrels on pistols.
