Im thinking about buying a wilson combat full size guide rod 1 piece. Just concerned about quality after watching this youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjcDlo0bGzQ. Anyone else have this issue when they bought their guide rod needing to be polished with grit paper in order to have smooth action with the guide rod and plug moving back and forth?

Full Length Guide Rod 1911

You’ll see many different experiences with full length guide rods. I would venture to say that the full length guide rod by wilson is excellent. Personally, I will be switching all full length to GI, with my upcoming springfield 1911 9mm. Are you having issues with your current guide rod? -

I use full length guide rod for it seems to balance the gun out for me when I’m trying to shoot fast. It’s all a preference by the shooter. The wise man said just find your place

Why deviate from the GI rod and the plug when the benefits of a FLGR is not obvious, if at all?Comment

I already ordered a GI style guide rod and plug directly from Springfield. Just like having both setups. Was just curious on the quality of the Wilson combat. Reason i'm thinking of going with a full length guide rod is because i dont want my 1911 to become loose with the fitting of the slide and frame after countless rounds.Last edited by darkstar2000; 07-26-2020, 1:10 PM.Comment

I have both. No issues with either type.
I have no clue what inspired a TWO piece FLGR.

I hate the two piece guide rod that came with my Springfield 1911 Loaded. That's the only thing that i dont like about the gun.Comment

Custom pieces - EVEN Wilson Combat gear - often needs "fine adjusting," to make it work correctly. You most often hear about it with fitting safeties, but yes, guide rods sometimes need fitting too.

Only issue I had with my Loaded was the FLGR came a little loose at the range. Needed to have the proper tools to tighten that sucker down. Not a biggie, but a pain nonetheless. I prefer a GI style, but can see an advantage to the FLGR.
Otherwise, I miss my Loaded.Les Baer 1911: Premier II w/1.5" Guarantee, Blued, No FCS, Combat Rear, F/O Front, Checkered MSH & SA Professional Double Diamond Grips
