It was a Franklin Armory Pistol, which is legal but was modified to be used as a semiautomatic weapon, making it illegal in California.

I'm interested to see how this plays out. Was the pistol in a fixed magazine configuration? Is this an AW charge or is he being charged for "manufacturing an unsafe handgun"?

I bet it was semi-auto without a mag lock - because, you know cops are exempt and stuff...

Just saw this as well. Ca law was always squirrely on converting ar pistols. If this sets a standard people are going to have to reconvert to bolt.

I remember seeing a instructions about making a single shot AR pistol and then converting it to semi-auto. I always thought doing so was just asking to be prosecuted if caught by a anti-2A DA. I guess this will be a case to test the theory if it has not been tested before.

So it's a straight-pull bolt-action pistol with a 10 round detachable mag, and it's on the California roster.

kinda strange though, if he's a leo, wouldn't he be able to get a semi-auto ar pistol anyways? Buying a ca7 and converting it semi-auto is a bit of roundabout. Regardless, he brought a firearm into SF city hall, which I presume is a gun-free zone, so that would have got him in trouble anyways.

We had a thread earlier that got 'disappeared'.

Anyhow, this guy was roster exempt and could buy any semi auto AR pistol he wanted. It is hard to believe they would jam him up for making one, so now the million dollar question is was it fixed mag or AW, or really just a compliant semi auto converted from single shot.
