M&P shield ez, please help

the action gets easier as the recoil spring breaks in. But generally the shield is stiff slide compared to larger guns.
You can always just rack the slide using rear sights on the table or belt. Keep your trigger finger out of the trigger guard! One of the gimp guys in my pistol matches used his XD in this way. Holsters gun to reload and racks off his belt.
380ez is off roster and will cost you double or triple price these days....the 9mil won't rack much easier than your 40 you already have. 9mm is unicorn til after election settles..... Get a bigger 9mm. -
Not sure this has enough to help.
The ones made for Glocks look easier than this one.
This one might be able to grip better. I guess it depends on what you can grip or pull. (Try CBD?)
Revolver maybe?Last edited by Garv; 07-20-2020, 6:50 PM.Originally posted by Kestryll:

Put an ad in the WTB section of the marketplace. Eventually you will find someone that is either exempt, received one as a gift from a direct family member out of state, or recently moved to california with one that wants to sell. Expect to pay a hefty premium over msrp. Make sure to post your location because if your in los Angeles and the seller is in chico you would have to arrange a gun shop to meet at to buy, and then you will need to return again in 10+ days.
Also weed through the scammers asking for money in advance, telling you they can ship it to you from out of state, or directing you to someone else that may have what your looking for and provide an email address.Comment

Other options......Sig P238 (.380 on- roster) and P938 (9mm, off-roster). Single action cocked and locked, with safeties; but with slides like butter. SIG P365 (9mm) is also not bad, but commands an off-roster premium. LCR as a revolver option with smooth DA trigger. Good luck!Comment

.40 guns have stiffer recoil springs. Carry size guns have stiffer recoil springs. Couple them and it's much stiffer. Have you tried a 9mm shield?
And of course do the method of racking as mentioned above. It makes a huge difference.Comment

Clarification:
Turn your body towards your strong hand side to keep muzzle pointed downrange.
Strong hand: normal shooting grip
Weak hand: Thumb on one side (near side) of the slide, fingers on the other, elbow extending out above the muzzle.
Push weak hand over the strong hand. Let go with weak hand at max travel.
Way more leverage than pinching and pulling from the back of the slide.Comment

They sell 9mm barrel for the 40 shield.Comment

Since you are looking off list anyway for an easy calking pistol, maybe consider the XDe. My wife liked XDe over the EZ because it was a 9mm over .380 (back when we looked at them the EZ was only .380) and the EZ was more Glock 19 size vs the XDe closer to Shield size.Comment

The new EZ that is designed for new shooters and meant to be safer. Is obviously not safe enough for us dangerous gun folk here in California. If you are looking off roster, skip the shield all together. IMO its the worst edc gun available, based on quality and reliability. I’m sure others have had flawless victory with their shields. If that is you with your current shield, hang on to it. Train with it. The extra practice with it will provide much more than just breaking in that slide. Good luck!Comment
