my advice to you is have your slide milled for an rmr which also works with the holosuns. or buy an after market slide already milled for the rmr. my first handgun red dot was on my gen 1 glock 17 using a dovetail mount- it just sits too high.

i would go with the holosun 507 series because of the reticle choices- dot, circle, bullseye. you will need to get suppressor sights because any electronic dot may fail. if you buy the holosun elite series they come with a 10 year warranty.

i am not in law enforcement so i really do not need a bomb proof sight like an RMR.

      — Holosun 407c and 507c work great....sorry ‘Prestige. I have two 507c and have had no issues whatsoever. I love the 507c’s circle-dot reticle, and run it on my CCW Glock 19.5. Considering price, battery life, instant ‘On’ and reticle.... I would take the 507c over others.

One friend also has the Holosun 507c. He dropped his gun from the shooting table to the cement floor, no issues....kept zero, no damage.

      — I also have two Leupold Deltapoint Pro 2.5MOA units....they work fine, too.....just a single dot, though. In truth, I only chose the DPP on a Staccato P Duo and a Sig P320 XFive Legion because they mount directly to those slides, without adapters. Otherwise, I’d have gone with more Holosuns.

      — I do find the GREEN reticle of the Holosun 507c-GR is much clearer with my astigmatism issues

      — I also have a Vortex Viper.....it’s OK, but no instant motion ‘On’ like the Holosun and DPP, so for that reason I don’t like it as much.

Holosun gets great reviews, as does DPP and, of course, RMRs. Price can be a factor. Expensive RMRs can fail, too.

another suggestion since you have a glock 17 is buy a glock 34 slide already milled for an rmr. then you get the longer sight radius (for your iron sights) and you can add a ported barrel which will work with the coffin cut window. i have that set up and it is a very fast and accurate shooter.

i love the holosun red dots. with the new models having the side loading battery tray, i think getting one is a no brainer. i have the 507c-gr sitting on my glock 29 10mm. i have put maybe 2-3k rounds so far and it is holding zero.

Another option is a frame mount like a Carver or the ALG six second mount. No gunsmithing, no permanent mods to slide, less stress on the red dot, etc. A Carver mount is about $150, so it may be an overall more inexpensive way to go.

LOL, typical of your posts. "I want to spend between $250-$350".

Here's an RMR for $500, not including mounting.

that frame mounted red dot is interesting. i guess you also have the added benefit of a non moving optic instead of one reciprocating with the slide. faster follow up shots.

The Army decided to risk their soldiers' lives on the Leupold Delta Point Pro. Good enough for me.

That's because the Eotech is holographic, not an LED reflex like most red dots. I believe Vortex makes a pistol "dot" that's holographic but it's over your budget.

Go to a USPSA shooting match as a spectator a few times.

After viewing & visiting with a hundred or so different current competitors you will know. Remember, attend the events as a spectator.

When you compete, the best you can hope for is to shoot up to your current skill level. You can improve as a competitor by
competing. But you're not in that phase yet. You are in the testing & evaluation phase and the stress and excitement of the event
will most likely hinder the critical thinking process.

                            Snoopy47 post 15 and mjv post 19...Excellent.

Buy cheap and try it out for a couple thousand rounds before dipping into it. For about $100 you can get the Dueck defense mount and then buy a cheap Chinese red dot.

I started out with a Burris FF3 and a dovetail adapter on a G34. Didn't like the sight nor the way it was mounted.

Went to RMR and a slide cut on G34. Liked it, but view window is small so you really have to train to get it on target/find the dot.

Next went to G19 with a slide cut for a Leupold DPP 2.5 MOA. This is my favorite setup. View window is much bigger so it's easier to get it on target/pick up the red dot.

Gen 4 G41 MOS also with Leupold DPP. Works great, but using adapter plates, it's mounted a little higher than a slide cut.

Also had a Gen 5 G17 MOS with Leupold DPP. Also worked well, but again, mounted a bit higher than slide cut.
