It hits the mag release.

Try pushing (slightly) on the mag release while inserting the mag. It will go right in and gets seated.
Not sure why some gun and mag combinations will do this. I suspect the shape of the feed lips on some mags cause them to not pass the mag release/lock do hickey smoothly, needing a slap to pass that and seat the mag.

You might have a burr on your mag release.

If you don't want to file your mag release try different springs.
