A minute or so. I put a wet rag over the receiver to only heat the threads. I put a SBA3 brace on, it comes with a new buffer tube.

Heat the reciever, NOT the tube.
Keep the tube cool with a wet rag or wet paper towels.
You need to expand the receiver to make the tube come out.

If you heat the tube and not the receiver, you are actually expanding the TUBE which helps to lock it into the reciever.

Last post of Randalls did the trick using a strong blow dryer to heat and strap wrench to open.

Per California law, in order to avoid creating an illegal AW, you must install a maglock on any semi-auto AR, whether pistol or rifle.

ETA: this is assuming he is swapping uppers with a new one that has a working gas system.

Also per California law, no one can make an unsafe handgun aka semi auto handgun. Because observing one law does not give you the right to break another. And therefore, unless you planned to break Ca law to convert a non semi auto handgun to semi auto, you would have no need to observe the mag lock law.

I believe that was the real point of the question being asked.

That thread is very dense. I know because i read it. Some of us are fairly new to guns and have additional questions or need to clarify what we read. It's easier for you to just not respond. That seems to be a trend anyways.
