In the bay area east, checked several big box sporting goods stores (BassPro, Big5, Dicks) they all out of 9mm hollow points. Anyone else having similar experiences?

Nope! All stocked up, good and loaded with HP ammo across the caliber range that I use (.22LR, 9mm, 45ACP, .223 and 12ga). Preparation should happen before possible social unrest, etc. not during...
That said, ain't HP discourage in that area of California? I don't exactly where the East Bay is, but...

Seriously, surprising observation from OP. In previous ammo shortages, it was always the range ammo that was hardest to get, and there was usually high priced defensive ammo available.
