Best .22LR conversion slide for 1911?

Friend's wife loved my Buck Mark and was thinking he could just get a 1911 conversion slide for his Springfield 1911A1 for her to shoot. Who makes good ones?

Is lock back last round, a must have option? A lot of the kit's do not.

Can shoot high velocity ammunition, has last round hold-open, takes common GSG 1911-22 magazines, is dry-fire safe, and fits inside my regular 1911 holsters (assuming you get the "standard" 5" version).

I like the Colt 22 conversion unit. They are not made anymore, and if you can find a used one its expensive.

.22 LR conversions just never seem to work out 99% of the time.

The longest & most obvious fail example of center fire pistol to rim fire popularity is the 1911. Bullseye shooters tried
this technology over 70 years ago. The result was then and is now frustrating & more expensive then they anticipated.

Due to the California rooster BS, many a person with spend the rest of their .22LR pistol recreation shooting activities
using their 2nd or 3rd choice because they are to too impatient to save up the extra 300 hundred dollars to buy their 1st choice.

Advantage Arms gets good reviews, I wanted one but it was out of stock at the time. I bought a barely used Kimber kit, works good with HV ammo like Mini Mags and Blazer, no last round hold open.

Actually, Nelson and Marvel conversions are still very popular among Bullseye shooters. I personally built a number of .22 pistols using various frames and Nelson conversions, and they work great and can hold an X ring at 50 yards with decent ammo.

The truth is that, just like any other part (except maybe grips), there's no such thing as truly drop-in part for 1911. Depending on a gun, a conversion may or may not work 100% reliably OOB. Some may require a different hammer and/or lighter mainspring in order to function properly. Others may have a little interference between the slide and the dust cover. Some frames have out of spec rails which also causes slide binding.

My recommendation would be to get a Nelson conversion but have it installed for the first time by a qualified 1911 gunsmith who can tune your pistol to properly work with the conversion.
