    FSC and Courses

    FSC and Courses

Taking all that's going on around us into consideration...

Would a course like this http://www.closerangetraining.com/co...andgun-safety/ be a good place to start for new shooters?

I have a few buddies who want to learn and own for the first time. They've been schooling themselves on the fundamental stuff, and as I was looking for local shops/ranges that give FSC exams, I came across the above course at Close Range and thought: hey, going as a group to train and get my friends their FSCs sounds like a good way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

Any feedback on Close Range Training specifically, or other suggestions would be most appreciated.

Or they could just read this for free and go down and take the test at a gun shop: https://oag.ca.gov/sites/all/files/a...orms/hscsg.pdf

That's actually a great idea, combining the FSC w/ a basic intro course. Never really thought of that.

No experience with your specific pick.

Could also look into the NRA courses. They've changed quite a bit, so I don't know which ones are appropriate but there seems to be a "blended" basics course where you do the classroom portion on your own time and a hands on portion with a certified instructor. Obviously this doesn't necessarily include a FSC.

Browse the complete catalog of NRA firearm training courses by topic or type of firearm.

If you are completely new to firearms, I highly recommend a NRA basic pistol course or some other intro course. You learn all the basics and you get to shoot some .22lr pistols. Most offer larger calibers like 9mm for an extra fee. You can also take the FSC test while all the information is fresh in your mind.

That's how I got into firearms and I'm glad I did.

Another vote for NRA Basic Pistol. The course at that link might be worth the money, as well.

Good feedback from all of you, thank you.
Specifically, do these NRA courses afford the opportunity for students to take the FSC after course completion? I'm military so I don't know the process for my civie friends. Thank you, again.

Mayor McRifle, yes they have the study guide and are preparing for the test. So far the shops I'm finding online have stipulations that require the FSC test taker to buy something from their shop, too. Are you aware of any shops/ranges in the greater Los Angeles area or Orange County where they are cool with people coming in and taking their FSC tests only?
