    Sorry, I've only dry-fired them - actually, it was the Commander-sized 1911Sc.

But they felt great and I *NEVER* hear of any problems with them (unlike other 1911 brands/models like Sig GSR). Aside from top-notch reliability, I've also heard off-the-shelf S&W 1911s have a general reputation for stellar accuracy compared to the 'rest of the herd'.

So much so that I'm tempted to get a 1911Sc but am wavering because I like the Sig 220 Carry SAO as well. Maybe I have to get both

SW makes an excellent 1911, the one I shot was on par with most custom guns in regards to accuracy and the fit&finish was excellent.

I would have no reservations in recommending a SW 1911 based on what i have seen.

I have one in the back room that I'll be putting on lay-a-way shortly. It's the 1911Sc, and in most respects, identical to the PD model. Overall build quality and finish are excellent. I also have a standard S&W 1911 that I'm holding... They're really well done, and seem like much higher quality pistols than what Kimber and Springfield are offering for a similar price.

          S&w 1911pd

          Bob,

I recently bought one and I have no complaints. It is my first 1911, so I don't know what to compare it to. Send me a P.M. if you are anywhere near So. Orange County and would like to try it out, I can meet you at On Target in Laguna Niguel.

Ive shot a clip through one and i think their pretty good, it was on par accuracy wise with my mil-spec but i also fitted a tighter bushing to my mil-spec though so out of the box the S&W would take my pistol accuracy wise. Good pistol for the money.

The one I am looking at is the Commander sized with the lightweight frame. Seems nice, just wondering about the external extractor......

I have a S&W 1911 pd and I love it. I think you can't go wrong if you buy this pistol.

Unlike Kimber's flawed attempt at an external extractor, the Smith 1911s do not have extractor problems. Smith uses the same extractor on their 1911s as they've been successfully using for years on their other auto pistols. The external extractor is definately not a weakness on these pistols.

                    switching up?

I see you've got a S&W 1911PD Commander up in the Firearms Sales section... Why are you thinking of switching up to the full size?

Personally I prefer the Commander sized 1911's - for me they handle better, point more naturally, and are a bit easier (for me) bring into use from concealment - having a shorter torso, drawing up that extra inch makes a difference.

Yes, I am thinking about getting a 5" instead of the Commander length.

I would murder for this gun considering I'm flat broke.

Shot about 5 magazines through one. My first magazine resulted in 3/8 at 100 yards on a 12" steel plinker at Angeles.
