.380 Cimmaron Old West Single Action percussion conversion

Colt made conversions of the 1851 and 1860 percussion revolvers in the 1860's (before their famous model 1873 Single Action Army SAA).

Uberti & Pietta have made for many years repros of these. Now they have a scaled down 1860 Army conversion in .380. (The 1860 model Colt was one of the handsomest guns ever, and the Colt conversion type is seen everywhere in the Hell on Wheels series).

Might be of interest of anyone who already has a .380 auto or who already has lots of ,380 ammo but no gun for it. It's another choice for anyone who needs to shoot ,380.

I guess it's actually a repro of a Colt factory conversion 1862 Police revolver. The 1863 was a scaled down version of the 1860 and was .36 instead of .44. Colt did later sell converted Police 1862 models in late 1860's.

It sure looks nice, too bad they had to make the barrel so darn long for importation. Wonder how much it would cost to have it cut down to 3.5” or so?

Hmm, I’d bet you could fit 6 .32 ACP in that cylinder... just sayin.

I saw one. Liked it. I would prefer a 5 1/2 in barrel.

I thought about it, as I cast boolets for my 380.

I ordered one, two showed up. Unfortunately the barrel to frame fit had alot of wiggle - it should have none with the wedge in fully and the retaining screw holding it tight. Couldn't get the thing to tighten up, I think they went back to the distributor. That was just before the COVID closures.

Normally I'd have taken the gun and fiddled with it, but the screw was fully turned in so I thought it best to wait.

I'd have liked a shorter barrel too, kind of wondering if a 3" assembly could be separately sold. Worked for Eli Wallach, yes?

Do you have to manually eject the cases with a separate rod?

                  Yes.

Although from what I've seen on line the empty will sometimes drop out during recoil, slight that it is, since the gun indexes clockwise. The rest, with a relatively low pressure 380, should push out easy. Or be pulled out by fingernail if they don't sit flush with the cylinder.

According to the video in OP, when gun is being fired the case cannot possibly fall out because at least part of every case is blocked (not inline with the channel).
